My advice would be to take just the beginning and end of your post.

We received a phone call like that, too. And I also have no idea where they got our phone numbers.
...
it seems like some junky company contacting you.
If they're cold calling for customers, keep away.

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

There was an article about this recently but I can't find it anymore. Basically, these are call centers set up somewhere in eastern Europe which make money by arranging appointments with insurance advisers in Switzerland. I believe it said that they get paid a flat rate per appointment made, regardless whether the person ends up buying insurance or not.

The numbers they call from appear to be Swiss numbers but they are just internet phones and the callers are actually based in a country where it's much cheaper to run such an operation.

I'm guessing they do cold calling because my number is not even listed and I've been called by them. I'm not sure how legal it is, but since they operate from another country, perhaps it's harder to try and stop them. In my opinion, it's a pretty shady way for brokers to get potential customers.

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

If you happen to end up talking to telemarketing just stop them in their tracks by saying "Yes you can talk to me but only if you agree to my conditions. I will charge your company 100CHF per minute to talk to me" If they do not agree then hang up. Also I think I will starting logging their calls to me and send them a bill if they keep on calling my mobile!!!

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

Today i received a call from 0766020667 regarding optimizing the health insurance. The lady called herself Frau Schimdt was very rude and said (in German) that i need to learn about health system before telling her that i am not interested. She would not take no for an answer and i have to put the phone down.

The calling number seems to be from a Mobile and not from usual 0800 numbers.

Ignore the number it comes from it is an internet number in a call center. Best treatment I find is as soon as you realise they are ringing about health insureance I tell them to bugger off!

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

Just a tip that will help if you are receiving these calls on your mobile phone. The search.ch app has settings to mute call center calls and although it does not get all of them it mutes quite a few on my phone.

Enjoy missing calls!

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

Another tip for those of you with a Gigaset IP phone, where you get your phone calls via the internet and your phone base has a port for a network cable.

In the settings that can be accessed with a web browser you can configure it to lookup telephone numbers on tel.search.ch and display the name if there is a listing for the phone number that is calling you.

This is a big help in weeding out call center calls as it will either say call center or have no name.

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

The constant stream of calls is so frustrating. I get them despite being on the 'do not call' list. Every time I am called I say "remove me from the database" seemingly all to no avail (I imagine it could be even worse if they called my mobile which they don't).

Today i am thrilled to share with you that if you have a swisscom VOIP service for your home number, you can see a list of calls made to your number and just select and block. that easy!

Here is a screenshot formt he 'customer centre' online thing.

Does this work on the iOS version of the search.ch app? I just opened the app and I can't seem to find the location of your screenshot.

Thanks.

We've receive these calls every few months. The caller (it 's a Zurich or a Bern number) says that this is about optimizing our health insurance and won't cost us any more. Caller is not employed by the insurance company, but no clear answer when asked about employer. Only wants to speak German. So the last call, i said i can read German, send me the info. No info ever arrived. Tonight i just answered the phone and the guy wanted to speak to someone who speaks German. My husband speaks German, but he didn't want to be bothered. So then i said, "well, i make the insurance decisions because I've worked in health care" (true to some extent). And the guy said "ahhhh, well you aren't likely to do any of this anyway, so we're not going to send you any info." So i asked him to take my number off the calling list. We'll see.

But what is the purpose of these calls? Are they legit? Has anyone received them? It's just odd. I might call my insurance to see if they have any info on this.

I don't even get proper calls, only missed calls. Firstly I used to think I really 'missed' them until I had phone and in my hand and they intentionally ring you just once. I call back to hear the 'boring same story' of gunstige Versicherung optionen . This is a total spam, not sure from where they got my number very very frustrating

Really most effective is to be very consequent and say "no thank you, not interested", and put the phone down. Very simple.
I have done this at least 15 times, and even asked them to update their databases to not call me. Have saved their numbers under weird 1 to 10 to avoid calling them after seeing their 'missed calls'
such a pain it is really.

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

With a Sunrise Fritz box, you can block numbers. We don't get so many calls since we started doing that.

Most smartphones easily have the option to block numbers as well. With my HTC-1, I just press and hold on the number and a menu comes up, including the block option.

Maybe one approach would be to make an appointment, and when the rep turns up give him/her an earful.

I am using the Android version of the app so I am not sure about the iOS version. I the Android version I click on the 3 bars to open the menu. At the bottom of the menu is Settings with a gear icon next to it. The screenshot is of that settings menu.

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

Bugger, I think I got got by these guys! I had a guy come round, did some changes to our policy that I didnt really understand! He said the kids were missing off theirs some thing which means they could go to a hospital in another canton or something or other. He said everyone should have it and seemed shocked that we didnt; although fell short of saying it was mandatory. I let him put it on anyway, because he said he could add a discount meaning that the premium would not go up. He seemed nice and left a booklet in English explaining the added bit but tbh I still don't understand it!

The next week I had someone else call, and arrange an appointment until i realised that they were either the same company or a different one, trying to come and make some more changes haha (they'd made it sound liek it wasn't). They hung up on me after I cancelled it!

Had another one today, it was in French which I don't speak but I understood the word "insurance"! Told him in really bad french that I don't speak it but he just carried on talking in french so I hung up.

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

We still get one or two (sometimes more) of these calls everyday.

There appears to be no way to block numbers using Cable-com.

There are advantages with the British NHS compared with the Swiss system - namely no nuisance calls.

Plenty of financial service cold callers in the UK, they just use a different sketch to get a meeting with their prey.

They tend to obey the TPS there (we had zero cold callers after signing up for that) more than the scum here obey the 'star' opt-out system which is a complete joke.

It's not. I've tried all avenues. Politeness, rudeness, just putting the phone down etc.

At least twice when I was particularly rude (but I didn't swear), the person persisted in phoning me back and then hanging up many times for the rest of the day.

The best thing is if they didn't call. They know I don't want their calls.
I guess the Swiss Health Insurance companies must be making a very attractive offer to these cold callers for selling supplementary insurance or for getting people to switch insurance companies.
