you need to be careful with this, the letter may not even be from the insurance company. During the phone calls the marketing agent usually probes for information (name, address, insurance provider, costs) and subsequent calls they even pretend to be the insurance company. Once they send you an agent face to face they will try and sell you other insurance products..just be weary
The letter is from the insurance company. I have no doubt about that. Nor do I doubt they want to sell me more insurance products. It says so in the letter.

He can call or not either way if I had wanted more than the basic insurance I would have it by now.

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

Several calls from a 043 number. They found someone who could speak English. They said they were from the insurance information centre. I asked for the caller to send me an email. He refused saying he did not have time. I hung up at that point.

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

It seems like its open season for these cold callers again.

Just had a guy with the number 061 508 7077

Despite the 061 code he claims to be from Zürich and is called Mario.

He asked me how much I pay for my health insurance.

I said, i can't remember.

He said, why can't you remember.

I asked him, can you remember how much you pay for electricity?

He hung up.

PS, seems to be known nutcase

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

If you an android phone you can install true caller, it will show you the number and where it comes from and moreover you can block the call.
I also receive this kind of phone call and most of the time it's because I search for a better insurance on comparis, bonus.ch and so....

Do remember that TruCaller uploads your entire address book to its servers. That is how they figure out if the number is valid or spam. If you are ok with that, go ahead

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

I had one earlier this week (as mentioned on another thread). She was very pleasant, and was actually verbally very thankful for our friendly talk.

Wasn't sure if that was a sales tactic, she has had to deal with a bunch of a$$sholes all morning, or was just a Swiss who had never met a Canadian.

Eitherway I will entertain their besprechung today. Although I'm pretty certain they can't undersell my deal.

Or you're just a bit more gullible and more of a walk-over than the average person.

I guess why that's they continue to harass and harangue the rest of us - because they know out of every fifty calls or so, someone will say yes.

Do you buy lots of stuff with cold calling or do you make insurance a special case?

Meh, walk over or gullible? I have a good understanding of time/value/money---if it's a good deal, I'll take it.

As I mentioned, I don't think they can beat my deal---if they do, and for any cold callers, yes I will buy it.

The value of a product is irrelevant to the methods it was sold. They're really no different than sales persons in stores, just not being in person means many people feel like they can be rude and assholish.

I choose to go into a shop. My telephone, which I pay for, is for my own convenience and for that of my friends and family.

If I found out the address of a cold caller, I guess you think it would be okay if I turned up at their house with a van load of things to sell, laid it all out in their sitting room and then said they were welcome to browse?

If I did this every single day, do you think perhaps they would get just a little annoyed or do you think they'd say, when I arrived yet again, "Oh, lovely to see you again, please come in and set up your shop. Same stuff again as yesterday? Not to worry. Yes, of course I have time. No, I wasn't doing anything in particular....."

It's totally up to you, answer your phone or don't answer. If it's a cold caller say you're not interested, 2 minutes of your time. I realize for some people this is a seriously infuriating inconvenience for them. But for me, I guess my life is a bit simpler and a bit care free---what would infuriate me would have be a lot more severe than this simple situation with another human being.
But again, different people, different abilities, thicker skin. I don't judge those with short fuses.

One of my kids, missed his bus. Stuck at a bus stop in the dark. Borrows a phone to call home as his own has a flat battery. Gets no answer.

I always answer the phone.

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

Agree a thick layer of blubber helps with such callers. Having said that these guys are a minor irritant compared to "Microsoft windows team", so we should count our blessings. Annoying short phonecall with a person in a legitimate callcentre vs crooked scammer trying to prize anything out of you and/or your computer. I feel better about my last call already!

Probably.
If that's how you justify being an asshole to another human being--the common case when your kids misses the bus and has a dead battery--- by all means do it up!

A little life tip---if you constantly worry and prepare for these things and rearranging your life in case of every potential situation, you're well on your way for a shortened life and serious health issues.....maybe the expensive Krankenkasse is indeed a better option!

When you tell them, politely, many times, that you are not interested, are registered as opt-out for these calls and yet they persist in calling again and again, and again, why should you be polite?

The health insurance companies that pay the cold calling companies and their reps commission are the assholes here.

Anyway, I just say no thanks and put the phone down. Please explain why I need to be on the phone for a few minutes listening to their sales spiel?

Actually, getting calls from my kids was the reason why I always answer my phone - in answer to your question about why I pick up my phone. Why did you twist it around to be something else entirely?

I agree there the company are the assholes---the actual callers however might not be.
If you don't have the time or are expecting something important, saying no and putting the phone down is absolutely correct.
But because I had the time (and not always the case) to listen to what they had to offer in a civil and adult manner, doesn't deems me a gullible walkover who is the cause of others contempt towards them.

That's one excellent way to stop them:
Waste their time and they'll strike you from their list rather soon. At least it worked for me.

Well that is true, I am known to be annoying and generally disliked by all. Consider it a favour I'm doing for the rest of you ingrates.

On that note, they just called to confirm I am coming today---I really must be the only one hahahah

Re: Weird Calls about Optimizing health insurance

Update!

Well I walked into Swica all confident and smug---thinking: Hmmm, this won't need to take more than 30 seconds! I'm going to own this sales person.

It was actually the same nice lady who cold called, and she was actually extremely nice and friendly in person as well.
She offered me a coffee, then asked what I was looking for---I said the cheapest option. She said right away "We aren't, sorry for wasting your time".

Literally 5 seconds!

But of course I had to finish my coffee, so we just chatted about random things (since we still had a half hour to waste), and then she gave me 2 packages of salad dressing!
Quite possibly only the second Swiss female I ever had a nice, enjoyable conversation with in 7 years!

So in the end--met a nice person and got a free coffee and some salad dressing. Sticking to my old insurance.

I think the point that some of us already appreciate that if a company has to resort to cold calling and persuasive sales tactics, they are not going to be offering the best, or cheapest product.

But did you get her number? After all, she's got yours so only seems fair.
