Re: Ongoing treatment and new health insurance

Tuesday i went to the doc for a routine check up, nothing urgent nothing hurting, he decided to give me a cardiograme

Thursday morning it was done, finished.

I went couple years back as i had pain in my hips. a xray showed me my spine was moving apart, 2 days later i had the first scan, 3 weeks later i had a 6 hour op to fix it with a pile of screws and steel.

Replacement hips, 4 weeks from diagnosis to repair.

All this was on basic health insurance, how long would it all take on NHS.....

Re: Ongoing treatment and new health insurance

For me I would take the Swiss Insurance, if I had remained under the UK system I would be dead by now!. UK said I was no longer a surgical candidate as my cancer was too near major veins and didn't want to risk surgery in case they damaged the vein and I bled out on the table.

The Swiss attitude was yes it is risky because of the proximity of the veins but they would have a vascular surgeon available and if necessary do a vein graft or fit a prosthetic vein.

So from my point of view the UK were resource/cost limited, the Swiss weren't.

I had the 12 hour surgery 3 weeks in hospital, followed by 3 weeks in rehab, which as Heckonhocker said was all covered by the basic Swiss Health insurance, we were both very relieved and I'm still here to tell the tale.
