Re: Insurance recommendation

Hi,

We have all our computers insured through Allianz. However you must know the following:
- Allianz will remove 1% of your computer's initial value each month from the date of its purchase
- Allianz will have a 400. deductible

So let's pretend you bought your laptop in September. You paid 2500.
In June 2015, it falls off your table and would need repair estimated at 800.

Allianz will do the following calculation:
Computer initial value 2500.
Since 10 months would have passed from the purchase date till June 2015 Allianz will remove 10% (1% per month) of your computer value: 250.

Your machine is covered for a cost of up to 2250.
From the repair costs (800.) Allianz will deduct 400. and will pay you the rest, that is 400.

To finish with, if your computer value - the monthly % amortization - your 400. deductible is more than half the value of your computer you have two options:
Sell your machine
Stop insuring your machine as the repair cost will cost more than the value of your machine and your insurance will decline any costs participation.

Hope this helps.

Re: Insurance recommendation

Once it's been used for a while the big value isn't in the hardware, but the software, data, and maybe all the bookmarks, settings, passwords, etc.

None of these is covered by any insurance.

Your best insurance is to make backups regularly on a separater medium (CD/DVD for example) and keep your license keys and passwords somewhere safe. Best of all: this is virtually free.
