Fire insurance

Hi guys,

Since September I have been receiving mails from ECA that asks me to declare the value of the contents of my studio. However, I rented my studio completely furnished. I can only declare value of my clothes, laptop, and ipad I guess. So.. my question is, if it's under a certain limit do I still have to get this insurance? And I received the form in the beginning of the semester, so I didn't keep it if they sent me the address I need to send the form back. Could you please help me about that?

I have one more question, where do I exactly need to go to prove that I have a health insurance? I think it's municipality not commune but can someone help me about the details?

Thanks a bunch in advance!

Best,

Re: Fire insurance

Hi Jethro

First of all, as you've found out, Fire/Natural disaster insurance (ECA) is mandatory in Vaud. They send this letter to everyone when they move here. The insurance turns out to be pretty cheap, but it is also important that the value of your household goods on the ECA form closely matches that listed on your household insurance application.

However, since you are in a furnished accommodation, it is likely that this could be already included in your rent, particularly if the accommodation is short-term. (It was in my first temporary apartment here.) I would bring the forms to your landlord/contact person and ask before doing anything else.

Hi Tox_Rat,

Thank you very much for your prompt response. Unfortunately I asked my landlord and he said it isn't included. Do you have and idea where should I mail the form after I fill it?
