Is that normal to pay the whole month even I was here only for 1 day?

Hello guys,

I came to Switzerland on 31th October, 2014. Recently I got a invoice from my health insurance company (Swica) and on the invoice I was required to pay the premium for the whole October. I argued with them but they said it's normal to pay the whole month.

Unfortunately, the law allows them to do this- it has been discussed here before, with links to the actual article in the law- as it happened to many here, including us- we had to pay for the whole month for 3 days. Same happens with a baby born at the end of a month, the charge is for the whole month, even if born on 31st at 11.55pm!

The insurance are allowed to wave this if they wish, and some do. The cheaper ones do not. Several of us have been warning others on EF for a long time- a month for the 2 of us would have paid for a nice little holiday!

That sucks. I should have taken the flight one day later.

Actually rather bizarrely I don't think the cost of the insurance makes much difference here.
We were with one of the cheaper ones at the time and we didn't have to pay whereas the OP is with Swica which is one if the most expensive and they haven't waived it.
