Airline/Travel Supplier Insolvency Insurance

We're lucky enough to be planning a family holiday down under.

It will be quite expensive, with extremely large sums being paid to an airline and a campervan rental company.

I'm looking for an insurance policy that would cover us in the unlikely event that the airline or campervan company goes bankrupt.

There are lots of companies in the UK that will cover this, but I didn't find any that will cover travel not booked in the UK. UK credit cards would also cover this, but not Swiss ones.

There are also some Swiss insurance companies that claim they cover "airline insolvency" but that wouldn't be any use for the campervan company, and in any case all the Swiss policies I have found only provide cover during travel and for the 28 days before travel. We'll be paying more like 10 months before travel.

Does anyone know any companies that would cover this for Swiss residents?

I Think you can buy your Insurance in the UK , no Problem.
Or ask your Travel agency/Bank/Insurace Agent, they are happy to assist and
provide a Travel Insurance.

I doubt it. Usually you have to be a resident of the country you get the insurance from. Still have a look here - a site I found by googling so no recommendation as such from me.

There are probably others too, but I didn't bother to check further.

I checked World Nomads- they do provide cover for supplier failure, but it only applies during the holiday i.e. not for any problems between now and December.

Ideally I would buy something from a Swiss company, but the product simply doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

Blackbird, most insurance companies have a residency requirement, or require travel to have been booked in the UK.

The Website has no problem with a swiss residency and gives a quote of 105 or 115 Euros (Single , 44 Years Age)
The ERV (via McFlight) charges between 439 and 489 Euros ("Rund um Sorglos Paket).

Do you think, the Airline you choose, to get to Australia , will go Insolvent ?
I would choose another Airline to get down Under.
I travel to Australia since 1997, never had any problems, even had a coach tour with 2 Pax (me and another Guy from Switzerland), the company did
the tour , regardless the 2 Pax(this would not happen here).
Especially when you are going all the Way from Perth to Wave Rock
on to Albany, Bunbury and back to Perth.
The last coach tour i did was about 2200 Km in 5 days from Broome to the Kimberleys(via Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek) and return to Broome.
It was worth every penny

Re: Airline/Travel Supplier Insolvency Insurance

greencelery, how are you planning to fly to Oz? Direct from Switzerland or could you go via the UK? If the latter then your booking might be covered under ATOL.

http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?ca...90&pageid=6494

You can get this cover if you book through ebookers.com for example.

https://faq.ebookers.com/app/answers...oes-it-mean%3F

It would depend on you having at least one night in an hotel as well (flight/hotel) or maybe you could book the campervan part as well as the flight which would be covered as car hire.

Otherwise, I think it's just a risk you have to take. Which is why you should go for well established/well known organisations and not necessarily aim for the cheapest option.
