Re: Urgent question insurance

More than bizarre- as it is Assura that insisted we paid for the full month of arrival, despite arriving on the 29th of March (2009- wow time has flown)- and said this was their policy without exceptions. I'd ask to speak to a Senior Manager if I were you. Mind you- we didn't use any health service for many months after arrival.

And get better soon. How long have you been suffering now- pluresy should be treated sooner than later. Do you know what type of pluresy it is- viral pluresy will only last 1 week once treated- but it depends if it is now bacterial or linked to pneumonia or tuberculose pluresy, etc.... Pluresy is acutally a ver vague medical term. Bonne chance.

Re: Urgent question insurance

I guess it rather depends on how much the treatment costs overall. If the treatment costs between now and April 1st are not too much it might still be less than a month's coverage in any case especially since you'll have to pay yourself until you reach your deductible. If you end up hospitalised then obviously the cost will be relatively high.

Take care of yourself and get plenty of rest Anthony.

Re: Urgent question insurance

Welcome back Anthony - take care with pleurisy - I developed that after a flight from San Francisco - it seems to be quite common after long haul.
Lots of rest and good food.

I would definitely take this issue to the ombudsman for health insurance if I were you. Their services are free of charge. Do this as soon as you're back on your feet, but to make sure that you won't be missing any deadlines, inform them now that you will be doing this once you're better.
Copy every bit of documentation you get pertaining to this case - documents which contain the date of your permit application, documents assuring that Assura won't pay before 1st of April (demand they give you this in writing), proof from somewhere that you're covered from the 1st of the month of application for your permit etc.

Some info here.

http://www.admin.ch/opc/de/classifie.../index.html#a5

Seconding others here - take care, keep warm and get well.
