Cancelling complementary health insurance outside deadlines due to hardship

Hello,

When my company fired me from my job they automatically put me on a new basic plus complementary health insurance

The complementary insurance is too expensive for me to afford, but I didn't manage to cancel it before the deadline.

I wrote to them to request a chance outside of the deadline because of my circumstances, but they won't change it.

So so far, I just haven't paid the bills, but expect they will send me a debt letter soon!

Does anyone have any advice is there any more I can do to get out of this situation, except leave the country?! It is groupe mutuel....

Thanks

I need more details, who put you on a "new basic plus complementary health insurance" ?

Was it Groupe Mutuel or your ex-employer? Did you sign anything?

In any case, you can go to your local court and ask for arbitration, "Cour d'arbitrage" or "Schiedsgericht"

Agree, did you sign anything? If yes, you may well be on the hook unless you were physically or mentally incapable of writing a registered letter by the deadline. For sure, not answering letters is not going to get you anywhere.

Did you sign anything regarding the complementary insurance?

I've moved jobs a couple of times and in both cases the default was basic insurance, with some extra options that had to be specifically agreed within a time period before they lapsed.

If you think you didn't - ask the insurance for proof you signed up for it. We had a similar issue where they swore we'd signed up for something that we hadn't, and didn't back down until we demanded a copy of the signed contract.

Also I'd suggest you pay the basic amount - at least that way you're covered for the legal minimum.
