Personal Liability - Broke friends windscreen

Hi all,

I broke my friends windscreen yesterday when loading some large items into the car. There is a crack now and the car is driveable but the windscreen will need replacing.

I'm not sure yet if she has car insurance covering it, or if it would affect her no-claims / premium.

I have personal liability insurance with Smile. I am wondering if they are likely to cover all/some of this damage. I have the contract etc. all in French which I'm doing my best to understand... it states that 'vehicle damage' is 'not insured', however I'm not sure if this just applies to driving a vehicle..

Thanks in advance
N

They most likely mean that you cannot use your personal liability insurance as a vehicle insurance - e.g. they won't cover you in case you cause an accident with the car. However, given the car was stationary and you broke the windshield while moving some items, my gut feeling is that they'll cover it.

Why not give them a call though? You can have the correct answer in about 2 minutes, as opposed to all of us speculating here about ifs, buts and maybes.

Whaaaaat! ! You actually want someone to call their own insurance company and find out the answer by themselves? ???

Don't know how it works in Switzerland, but in UK a query like this can end up increasing your premium, even if you don't claim - they deem you an increased risk.

I'm asking here as I don't want to call them yet, until we figure out if it's covered by the car insurance with no issues... Thanks for the help so far though.

It is most likely that damages done by a known third party are not covered.

Just take the car to a garage, they will fix it, (they will say that it was a stone. and get money from insurance)
normally no cost at all
