Health Insurance [Choose new model/provider]

I want to change my health insurance for 2016.

Currently I'm with Sanagate on their Hausartzversicherung policy.

What I really want is a Basic Insurance (Standard Model) that lets me be treated in the whole of Switzerland (Allgemein für Ganze Schweiz). Does that exist?
I was under the impression that all basic insurance only covered you for costs in your Canton, but my Dr seemed surprised that I wasn't covered for the whole of Switzerland. The hospitals in Wallis aren't the best, so often you are sent to Bern, and I'm never sure if my insurance will cover the full costs.

So is this possible without getting supplementary insurance? If so how/where?

Secondly, Sanagate are one of the cheapest for me and they are not terrible. But they are not great either. They are slow to pay back, if they can find a reason not to pay, then they won't, they make me nervous. Can anyone recommend a good company? I don't want to pay a massive amount more, but would increase payment a bit for good service/peace of mind.

Lastly, what is the cut off date for cancelling insurance? End of November?

Thanks Guys

Re: Health Insurance [Choose new model/provider]

You would need suplementary insurance in case you want to be treated out of the Canton you live in. To be more precise, it will depend if the treatment you need is available or not in an hospital of your canton...

In any case I sugest you get a complete insurance, not only the basic mandatory one which is really lacking a lot of coverage.

The cut off date to change your insurance from one company to another is, by law, the end of September. However, after you get your 2016 police (usualy in October), if the insurance premium changes, you have until the end of November to send your cancelation notice to your company and chosse a new one.

Re: Health Insurance [Choose new model/provider]

In 2012, the law changed so that you could be treated outside your kanton. I moved from Bern to kt zurich in 2012 and still see my oncologist and gyn in Bern. No problem.

It seems to depend on your kanton, but as long as the treatment in another kanton is no more expensive than it is in your home kanton, you should be covered. You might even be covered if it is more expensive or liable for the cost difference. Now again, some kantons are more restrictive, but i've had no problem in Zurich, and i have just the basic insurance telmed model from Viva Care (non binding advice). There are less expensive plans, but these guys pay within 2-3 weeks and are ok.

If i require frequent treatment or hospitalization, i suspect I'll stay in Zurich.

Basic health insurance covers out-patient treatment anywhere in Switzerland. The limitations on basic health insurance concern hospital stays only.

As I said:

"You would need suplementary insurance in case you want to be treated out of the Canton you live in. To be more precise, it will depend if the treatment you need is available or not in an hospital of your canton..."

I should have said "(...)in case you want/need to be treated in an hospital ou of the Canton you live in."

The basic insurance will cover the costs according to the tarif in the orignal canton. If it his more expensive and you don't have a complementary insurance, you'll need to pay the difference.
