CASAMED discount gone - premium shoots up

Hi,

I had a nasty surprise from Aquilana yesterday when my premium statement for 2016 came through the post. My monthly premium has shot up almost 13%! It's now extremely expensive

I am on the CASAMED General Practictioner scheme. There was an accompanying note saying in some cantons (Zurich is one of them, where I live) the CASAMED discount has ended, which could mean a premium rise of between 6 and 10%. I guess that combined with the standard rise of Aquilana (about 4%) explains what's happened.

However, I don't think I knew I was getting any discount! Hence the post - I wondered if anyone knew further details of this CASAMED discount ending in Zurich and whose decision it is ?

Thanks

Have you contacted Aquilana about this yet? Seems like they'd know best.

Re: CASAMED discount gone - premium shoots up

There are a lot of increases in health insurance premiums from 1.1.16. One needs to shop around for the best deal. Changing your health insurance provider can save you a lot of money. Some providers can charge up to a couple of hundred francs more per month than with other providers for identical cover.

My premium goes up by more than Fr.30.-- per month from January. And there are not that many less expensive options for me to choose from.

If I don't change the excess, the model or the provider I will have to pay the new 'per month' amount to retain basic cover.

Some health insurance providers offer a small discount if you pay the entire year's premiums in advance.

Re: CASAMED discount gone - premium shoots up

Younger people will often be paying more for health insurance in 2016. All the compulsory basic insurance premium levels are approved by the Swiss government, the Bundesrat & FINMA. You have until nearly the 27th of November to send a registered letter and cancel the Casamed policy for 2016.

I am very happy with the Visana "Managed Care" HMO scheme, but do search for your suitable policy https://en.comparis.ch/krankenkassen/modelcheck/entryarea

Be wary of insurance companies offering very cheap policies, they sometimes save money by employing fewer staff, which result in very long waiting for refunds etc.

My compulsory insurance (KVG) has increased from Fr 318.20 to Fr 329.20 (increase is Fr 11.00 or +3.4%)

My supplementary insurance (VVG) decreases from Fr 61.70 to Fr 52.20 (decrease is Fr 9.50 or -15.4%)
