Informing the insurance company about the pregnancy?

My wife is in the week 10 of her pregnancy and we are wondering if we need to inform her health insurance company (Assura) directly or this is something that would be taken care of after the first visit to the Gynaecologist (between the doctor and the health insurance company)?

It's better to inform them, this way they can put a little note on your file so that they won't miss they need to pay back 100% of the bills. They'll send you a document explaining everything they pay back, and what isn't included (by law).

I went through 3 pregnancies with Assura, I know how they work

Even if you don't get round to it they soon send you a letter sayng 'are you sure your not pregnant love, because we're getting bills from a gynacologist ?'

It's all ok, you won't lose any coverage.

The gynae indicates on the bill that it's pregnancy related. So even if you don't warn your insurance beforehand, you get the nice letter anyway, after the first pregnancy checkup.
