Need help in health insurance gap in coverage

I am leaving Switzerland on 15.12.15 and I deregistered for that date. I then discovered that my current health care provider, Assura, will not allow me to continue my coverage for any length of time post my deregistrstion date (15.12.15). I , currently, am only able to acquire a new health care policy in the states starting on 1.1.16. This will leave a gap of over 2 weeks without health care coverage.
I am asking for options , suggestions, anything that might help me figure out a way to resolve this lapse in coverage.
Thus far I have thought of these options:
1 - try to have the deregistrstion date changed until 1.1.16
2- travel insurance as technically I will be traveling but I will not have an active health care provider. I do not know of any such availability and would love to hear referrals, etc

Thank you and I appreciate any ideas, suggestions, etc

Re: Need help in health insurance gap in coverage

Where are you going next?

Travel insurance should be no problem...bought in Switzerland or from your 'home' country...or ask the insurerer in the US to start your insurance one month earlier so you have an overlap...

Re: Need help in health insurance gap in coverage

Thanks,
My insurer in the states (BCBSLA) will not start sooner than 1.1.16 . They say I can't start in middle of month and a new policy is not possible to begin on 1.12.15
Yes, travel insurance. Any suggestions for a provider?
