Health insurance in Switzerland.

Hello to everybody. In Switzerland you have so many choises for a health insurance, I was before in "Helsana" and then I changed to "Sympany". And now I'm thinking again to change and I would like to ask which is by your opinion the best one or the cheapest one.

Re: Health insurance in Switzerland.

This might help you find the answer: https://en.comparis.ch/krankenkassen/default.aspx

You could follow this up by getting quotes directly from the insurance providers' websites. From what I understand (disclaimer: I can be wrong), the best and cheapest might depend on your commune, gender, and date of birth. I am with Supra, which is possibly one of the cheapest. Can't comment on whether it is the best as this would be a subjective call.

I believe this is correct.
And also depending on your health condition and what you need, especially for the optional insurance.

But anyway it is allowed to change only at the end of the year. Now it seems to be a little earlier to think about switching insurance again.

It is allowed to change at the end of a year or when the insurance company
raise the premiums.
You can cancel your health insurance at End of June(registered letter until End of March), if you got an insurance with the standard model(no HMO or TELMED).

Re: Health insurance in Switzerland.

Maria,

There are over 85 insurance companies in Switzerland and many of them offer health insurance. In relation to the basic insurance, the price that people receive depends on their age and where they live. Currently for many people, Supra is the cheapest insurance but for other people Assura could be the cheapest so it really depends on where you live and your age to determine the best price.

In terms of the best insurance, all insurance companies are required to offer similar basic insurance products although the service level may be different. By customer satisfaction surveys, SWICA is considered the best in satisfaction but they are not usually the cheapest. But for my own experience, I would say Groupe Mutuel but that is just me.

Re: Health insurance in Switzerland.

Keep in mind that comparis.ch is a commercial site where insurers have to pay to get listed. Especially the cost concious may be unwilling to accept that so the cheapest are perhaps not even listed.

www.priminfo.ch on the other hand is the official site by the government and is guaranteed to list all insurers.

As for what's covered:
Basic insurance by law requires for all insurers to cover the identical issues, not just similar. However, as has been said, service may/does differ.
