Be aware that health insurance subsidy is social benefits in CH, so anyone who wants a C permit or a Passport might be turned down, so think very carefully before applying.
It's a shame this was not mentioned by the OP as it's a very important omission IMHO.

Just read the whole thread as I thought this had not be mentioned- and then found your post FMF. Essential info indeed.

Thanks everyone for the updated links.
My original post is almost 8 years old so it's not a huge surprise to see some of the links are no longer working!
Thanks everyone for keeping on top of it

No worries. I missed that thread too.
Yes, I'm still around but unfortunately can't get on here as much as I used to.
Will make a concerted effort once I get time!

Why no comment on the fact this is social help? , shame really but then you sell insurance so not surprised your dodging important issues.

You mean, if I apply for the subsidy and later apply for C permit, my permit application will be turned down?

Probably as you have received social benefits & been a cost to CH. Why would they want to give you permanent residence if you can't pay your own way?

I posted this thread as I thought it might be helpful for people who weren't/aren't aware that subsidies may be available for low income families.
I work in insurance, correct. I don't work at the commune or with applications for permits and the like.
I'm sure that anyone looking for help with a subsidy would contact the appropriate people for this kind of thing and they would ask this kind of question to those people.
The thread was set up to be helpful and informative.

I think 99% of the people reading this thread would have had no idea that this is treated as social benefits, so unfortunately could have caused much pain to people several years down the road.

I don't think anyone who saw this thread & had a low income would bother to ask if it's social benefits, it's been sold to them as a 'subsidy'

What do you suggest? We could perhaps ask admin to change the title of the thread? In French it's referred to as a "subside" which would be subsidy or allowance in English so I'm not sure what else I could have put?
Again, it was purely put up as an informative thread.
I was just trying to regroup the links for each canton for people.

The information is the same as on one of the Swiss Confederation websites :
https://www.ch.ch/en/reductions-health-insurance/

Jenny, your effort to inform people with low-income is highly appreciated. I suggest to add a line to the first post pointing out this fact.

Quite honestly I think it was deleted as a sort of privacy thing. You said you wouldn't be online or available for calls or anything. No-one really knew why. It prevented speculation. I believe it was Mods being tactful and protecting a great member.

Any links? anyone have experience with this? Has anyone reading this been turned down citizenship for receiving this subsidy, or know of anyone who has?

I receive the subsidy. I never asked for it - I just got a letter saying that CHF X- credit will go to my insurance company. I never really thought of it as a benefit, and i've never even been to see a doctor in CH.

If this will jeopardize my citizenship application, i'll gladly pay. I don't need anyone to pay my way, and in my situation I pay a boatload of chuffs into AHV for my own fledgling business above and beyond what I pay from my day job.

Thanks for bringing this up, FMF…

edit: OH says that we get the Prämienverbilligung, and that this has nothing to do with social benefits. Can anyone verify, please? (just freaked out a little after reading FMF's post, lol)..

I'm not sure if folk realise the implications of receiving social benefits anyway. Maybe Jenny could add a sentence at the top of the first post to point this out but since folk so often don't read the posts properly and you have to understand the social system a bit to understand problems which might come up later, I don't know if it would help.

Mate, we were just worried! We said so! Someone said how much you had done for the forum over many years! Happy now? Ask a Mod to dig it up if you really want to know.

This might be the 'danger clause' in the rulings concerning "Niederlassungsbewilligung" C Kanton Zürich
3.1.1
Erforderliche Dokumente

Strafregisterauszug

Bestätigung der Wohngemeinden der letzten drei Jahre über allfälligen Sozialhilfebezug.

Aktueller Betreibungsregisterauszug der Wohngemeinden der letzten drei Jahre

So they want to know, among other things, if a person has been receiving social benefit in the previous three years.
