Question on Complementary Insurance - is there a loophole?

Hi all,

I have the mandatory insurance with the highest franchise (2500 pa) and I'm now searching for complementary insurance as I heard they cover things as preventive care (e.g. annual gyno check up), vaccinations and a few others.

I got an offer from my health insurance and I'm surprised to see that complementary insurance covers "outpatient treatment / classical medicine" outside my canton of residence or work, by 90%.

As I understand, if I go to the doctor in Zurich (where I live), I'll pay out of my pocket until I spend 2500 per year. However, if I go to the doctor in Argau (where i dont live or work), my insurance pays 90% and I pay 10%. Is this correct? If yes, could I freely chose to attend a doctor in another canton?

I feel I'm missing something on how this works - any advice you have on complimentary insurance is very welcome!

Thank you and happy friday!

No, I think you'd still have to pay the first 2,500 franchise no matter where you get treatment. Only then would the 90% kick in, same as with the mandatory insurance.

As MD says.

Those 10% apply only to up to "deductible plus 7000CHF", so with deductible of 2500CHF anything above 9'500CHF comes at no cost for you in the mandatory part. Supplemental insurance can have completely different rules.
