Unsatisfied with customer service - can I cancel my insurance and move to another?

Hi,

I'm with CSS and very un satisfied. They added a "complimentary insurance" which I did not request. Unfortunately I signed the form, not understanding that they had added something without my asking for me.

I've spent 4 weeks trying to ring them to sort it out, but they have been ignoring me constantly. I've never been so frustrated with a company before.

They finally said today that they will not remove it as I signed it, and apparently I'm stuck with them for 3 years.

In any case, I'd rather not give them the satisfaction. Can I possibly cancal ASAP and move to another insurance?

Cheers,
Alan

You can cancel the obligatory health insurance in November and choose another insurer.

Your problem is apparently the voluntary and supplementary "private" health insurance. There you are stuck with the contract.

I think the clue is in the name; it's "complimentary" insurance, i.e. free. It probably gets tagged onto everyone's insurance who have the same policy as you.

Its certainly not free.. otherwise I wouldnt be complaining

Is that true I can cancel in November?.. But if I go with another provider, I still have to keep the complimentary insurance from CSS?

Isn't that "misrepresentation"? Calling something complimentary then charging you for it?

COMPLIMENTARY : Given free to repay a favour or as an act of courtesy, eg complimentary copies of the new book.

COMPLETMENTARY : 1. Forming or serving as a complement; completing.
2. Supplying mutual needs or offsetting mutual lacks.

I think you mean complementary (as in supplementary) so from your previous post using the words complimentary, Sandgrounder thinking it was free was a fair assumption to make.

I have (almost) been caught out by this, and extra 30% premium for some extras I didnt want. I almost paid it, but he was stupid enough to phone me up to expedite, and I took the opportunity to find out what it was.

I have no idea of your best course of action, but what I would do (have just finished a year long battle with an insurer) do everything signed-delivery (5chf/letter)

dave

Hi, you can only cancel your contract once a year and it has to be three months in advance. So end of September for end December.

However you need to be registered with another medical insurance company BEFORE, and then you need to send CSS your termination letter along with the letter from your new insurance company. Make sure you send the letter with registered post (CHF 5). For any information regarding insurance companies check out this website www.comparis.ch (its in English as well).

Best of luck

No escape from the supplementary health insurance. It is, like any other insurer, under contract law.

Obligatory medical insurance has a special law. You can change insurers. And insurers must accept all applicants. Only a basic set of treatments and medication are included.

Before you switch to another obligatory insurer, check your contract with CSS. You may be getting a discount on the supplementary due to having the compulsory with them. You might loose that discount and be hit with a higher premium for the supplementary!
