Remember. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Yeah, but what use is a vingnette, when actually you want a vignette.

Here's some exclusive footage of DB's bike, ready for action...

Quick question: where's the best bet if you need to buy a vignette in the 'off season'? It's only June, I assumed supermarkets would still have one or two languishing behind the counter but they don't seem to (checked Denner and Migros so far).

Do I need to find a bike shop, or is there somewhere else that sells them, and might still have them on hand this late in the year?
Aldi still has them for about CHF 4.50. Bought one the other day for another bike. Ask at the checkout.

Re: Velo Vignette: A few questions...

Has anyone ever claimed on their vignette insurance for 3rd party damage? I had a slight incident with a parked car yesterday. I left my details on the windscreen and am waiting for the call. I estimate I probably caused about 500CHF damage. Whilst Generali list this sort of thing as what they will pay out for, I'm curious if anyone else has any experience of making a claim.

My OH did. Things went smoothly. The key is to declare the accident with the details as well as all the details of the car, the person, their contact numbers etc. so you put Generali together with the owner of the car.

Thanks for your reply. I'll be sure to get as much information as possible when the owner calls - I just hope I can understand them as my German isn't too good.

Re: Velo Vignette: A few questions...

More more questions needed.

It's over. Yes, no more velovignettes.

The 2011 stickers expire end May 2012 and then everyone needs to ensure they are covered under the household or personal liability insurance, just as with any other accident you may cause... so an end to the system for ensuring all bikes had 3rd party cover, which was compulsory.

Technically, accoridng tot he act, you still need insurance, just not the sticker...

In summary, there is no more need for bike registration or number plates (these things went out decades ago) or stickers (which was phased out in 2012).

Anything else you hear is a rumour or is out of date.

Re: Velo Vignette: A few questions...

p.s. Some orginal sources to very these facts:

Swiss insurance association
, - complete with video proof of the tradition, and authentic swiss accents, in case you are an unbeleiver: http://www.svv.ch/de/medien/medienmitteilungen/velovignette-wird-2012-abgeschafft

http://www.vcs-zh.ch/de/versicherungen/velo/velovignette-2012.html

http://www.tagesanzeiger.ch/schweiz/standard/Das-Ende-der-Velovignette-kann-teuer-werden/story/26052505

non-authoritative, but interesting and includes reference to the perhap hilirious and only recently-ended concept of the Swiss Bike Troops (Schweizer Armee Velo-Truppe) : http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velovignette

Re: Velo Vignette: A few questions...

I just bought a new bike today, I asked the guy about a vignette and he told me, all the bikes he has sold this year, he has not sold anyone a vignette, deeming it obsolete.

I did put it to him tho, that the 2011/2012 one is still valid and is it not possible, that I could still be fined for not having one, from now, till the end of May?

He didn't think so, but didn't actually know and did look doubtful after that.

I really don't want to be fined ( it would be just my luck right now!), but also have no wish to be riding about illegally, so don't care about the 5 or so Franks, unless it really isn't neccessary.

Anybody?

It isn't necessary and you won't be fined. Enjoy your new bike!

Re: Velo Vignette: A few questions...

I should have read the links above my post before asking, "Alles klar".
I think I have been reading too many negative stories on the forum and was determined not to be one of those caught unawares, because as we all know,,, "ignorance is no excuse".

Good to know it for sure and thank you, I will enjoy the bike, it's been too long and the weather is so lovely at the moment, so will be able to blow away some winter cobwebs.

Re: Velo Vignette: A few questions...

It's from the beginning of this year that the old law is obsolete ...

But I have got a question: What about further services of the complementary insurance for the bike itself (in the past there was another bill in the vignette map you could pay as an extra) and the registration in bikerefinder?

Thanks

Re: Velo Vignette: A few questions...

Just purchased a bike from UK, came this week and its great! Currently riding with no 'Vignette', neither no liability insurance!

Can anyone recommend a good liability insurance company? Or is it even required? The sticker sounded like a better idea from what i'm hearing...
