AHV help

Hi All
We have just moved house and gemeinde and are in process of registering with the new gemeinde. I say process as they need my AHV number and I cannot find it or the card I was posted. I don't work (hausfrau) and we have hubbies from his tax return.

How do I find out what the number is? Is there someone I can call? or email?
what info will they need from me?
hope someone can help

thanks

Your previous gemeinde would have the number.

Re: AHV help

That's the thing Goldtop - I do not work and have not worked in Switzerland but I need to know the number to tell the new Gemeinde. I will try the old Gemeinde no Monday in the hope that they haven't already sent all the paperwork away - which I am sure they will have as I deregistered with them on Tuesday and only go the chance to register with the new one today.

What I really need in the contact details from the back of a zurich bods AHV card so I can try and get a new card and find out my number

If you never worked in Switzerland, then most probably you were not yet given an AHV number.

Re: AHV help

Even if you don't work you should have a new registration number. As far as I know every legal inhabitant has one or will get one, even children. Employes usually get the insurance card from the employer. Ask your old Gemeindeverwaltung. They should know either the old or the new number.

I've never worked in Switzerland, and don't have a number - it's something to collect insurance subs against, isn't it, and I'm not paying any so I don't have/ need one.

Did you get issued a physical card with a number when you arrived?

*fretting now in case I've missed out on something*

Re: AHV help

I remember being sent a card (like a credit card) with the AHV number on it - came out of the blue. Unfortunately I have no idea where it is - we moved last weekend and are surrounded by boxes.
I just asumed it was like a national insurance number that you get in the UK and I know where that is )

will try all the avenues on Monday and report back

Re: AHV help

quick update

the number the Gemeinde gave me wasn't my AHV number. lol

So rang the SVA as given by Zwissmiss and they were lovely. They let me speak my awful German and understood and gave me both mine and my husbands numbers. They were really nice and friendly and spoke simple High German to me.

So now I just have to wait for yet another copy of my marriage certificate to arrive. I ordered two copies this time as I just don't know what the authorities here do with them and why they feel the need to keep hold of them all??
