I hope some of you can help me shed light on the matter, I've been looking through threads on the forum but I'm still confused

I'm 4 weeks pregnant (v happy even if it's only the beginning), have just moved to Zug, I'm French (but not a Swiss resident yet), my partner is Swiss and I need to find a health insurance which will cover my pregnancy (my actual insurance is just about to run out).

I've been recommended Sanitas and was wondering if anyone had other recommendations. I'm fine going with public hospitals.

Has anyone recently been in this position?

Hi! Congratulations on your pregnancy. I have Groupe Mutual as my insurance company. Personally, my experience with them throughout my pregnancy has been really super. They have paid for everything the doctor requested and have been quick to deposit our reimbursements when we send in our bills.

However, as I'm sure you already know, everyone's experience will be quite different...so if you receive many replies, expect at least some of the information to be contradictory.

choose the cheapest one. As you're coming here already pregnant, adding on top of the base KVG will yield no benefits for you.

you may find that you want to look at the GP/Telemed plans to see if your choice of doctor and OB are supported.

I can recommend Jenny (on our forum) - put in 'insurance jenny' and I'm sure you'll get a link - she is a freelance insurance broker, and there is no cost to you - what she found for us was Groupe Mutuel for the two adults and Visana for the three children - she was happy to explain all the options over the phone, and what we ended up with was cheaper than comparis..

I looked at a couple of insurances as I wanted to change and what I noticed with most of them ist that they DO NOT cover pregnancy in the first year (no I dont intend to become pregnant but I just happend to notice this sentence in quite a few small prints). You really might want to check all your offers very thoroughly so that you dont end up paying everything out of your own pocket.

Whatever insurance company you are with has to give you basic cover for pregnancy even if you are pregnant when taking out the policy. This is the law since health insurance is compulasary. What they will not do is give you semi-private or private coverage. Bsic covers everything you need.

Have been following this thread and wondered if anyone can help with a slightly different enquiry.......I am 5 months pregnant and moving from Basel Stadt to Basel Land, we found out that our insurance company states that for the maternity coverage we have to give birth in the hopital where you reside.

I have nothing against the Brudeholtz hostiptal, but would much prefer to give birth in University Hospital in Basel as the reports there regarding the environment and birthing experience is much better for an English speaking only person. I am now thinking of taking out a second health insurance, but so far the ones I have looked at on comparis.ch are also saying 'in hospital of residence'.

Does anyone know of any insurance companies where you can join, and have the option immediately to choose the hospital you want?
