Hi,

I was here on 25 January 2007. I only applied for insurance near the end of 3 months deadlines, and I received a confirmation letter from Groupe Mutuel today. However, in the policy, it stated that my health insurance only starts from 1 May 2007, which is 2 months later than my deadline. Will that be violating the laws of Switzerland?

Any advice please.

It is highly unlikely, assuming that there has been no claims in the intervening period, that you will hear anything more about it.

You have nothing to worry about - you've saved some money. Normally this would get back dated and you'd have to pay the insurance as if you had applied for it the day you arrived.

So if I were you I'd just keep quiet about it - you are covered from now on anyway.

that's what I heard about too that they will back date to my arrival date. But the Insurance agent did quite understand English when I told him I was here on the end of January.

If you assure that will be alright, then I have peace in mind now. I don't know this country much, I don't want to do anything that will create troubles.

It sounds like you did all you could to tell the insurance company about the situation in the first place, so if they now don't charge you appropriately then it is their fault. I wouldn't expect that this would cause a problem for permit renewal, as Mark said, they are not nearly that organized, and even if they do detect it at that time then I would expect that the blame would lie with the insurance company and not with you.

Overall, it appears that the worse that could happen when you renew your permit is that they will then charge you for the insurance between January and May this year, but this seems VERY unlikely. Congratulations on saving yourself some money

Same happened to me. Didn't get insurance for a few months. I'm only here for a year, so I'm not bothered about B-permit renewal, etc. But I shouldn't worry, as Mark said, they're not that organised ...

Even if there was, then you just tell them that it's not your fault, and if you can prove it, prove it.
