Re: health checkup during pregnency

Hi,

All the checkups required by your pregnancy are fully covered by your insurance. Don't forget to mark 'pregnancy' in red on all the bills you send them, though. If you need special exams, they might ask a letter from your OB justifying them.

Concerning the yearly general checkup, it all depends on your 'franchise'. Indeed, you have to pay the bills yourself until you reach the selected amount (from 300.- to 2000.-, depending what you chose) and after that you pay only 10% of the bills, and Assura will pay you back the rest.

Hope this is clear

Re: health checkup during pregnency

Hi about07,

It depends on your health insurance and type of plan you have with them.

I asked everything about all the pregnancy check ups to my health insurance company , though she cleared everything to me and assured me that the company is going to cover all the checkup during pregnancy.

I had my 1st visit to gyeneo and he took all the papers ( policy no. etc )from me, He told me that he will directly pass the bill to the company and I need not go through the process.

But after 25 day of the 1st prenatal visit , I got a big bill of 360 chf today.

Everything is written in German so not able to understand except the doctor's name I visited, and that it is a bill of that.

We are communicating to the company regarding this,

I would like to suggest you to write an emeil to the company and clear everything .
thanks

We've got Assura too and been through 3 pregnancies with them.

A1) Yes and no. In principle all the "standard" check-ups are covered and any "emergency" ones if deemed medically needed by the gynae. The number of ultrasounds (3 or 4 if I recall) is limited in this respect, but in reality what this means is that your gynae (if they are decent) will mark each check up as medically required. You will also one or two post partum checks that will be covered fully. After that you are into franchise territory.

We had to swap gynaes half way through each pregnancy as we (i.e. my wife) had a "desk" gynae who didn't to operations. In reality this meant we had double the number of check ups as both Drs wanted to run their checks. No probs with our insurer.

We did have to pay everything and submit paperwork for refund; "Schwangerschaft" is the word you want to write at the top in big bold letters If you are pregnant (as opposed to thinking about it) good luck & sleep while you can!

A2) depends on your franchise, i.e. you are covered beyond your franchise. Before that you pay.

The Swiss don't really do regular health checkups as such. They will do regular gynae checks (i.e. pap smears and the like) but not cholesterol etc. unless you have a particular high risk.

Don't mean to ask a dumb question, but are you sure you don't have to pay first and get refund on application?

We have to with Assura (see post above)

Re: health checkup during pregnency

I would like to refresh this topic. 4 years passed and law was changed usually in favour of insurance companies (yes yes I know this is Switzerland).

Anybody knows if we still can count on 100% free USG scans and medications from the beginning of the pregnancy?

Thanks!

Yes you can and contrary to what you said in relation to insurance companies ( although it us rare for it to favour the patient and not the insurers) the law was changed in March 2014 and the coverage for pregnancy is even better than it was before.

Oh thats good! I was mislead then. But was this clause about contributing to the costs up until the 13 week of pregnancy always there?

Thanks!

Link: https://www.ch.ch/en/pregnancy-health-insurance-covers/

"Costs fully covered – no deductible or retention fee
Health insurance covers the cost of check-ups during pregnancy, birth, post-natal care and breastfeeding advice. You do not have to pay any part of the costs – there is no deductible or retention fee. Your health insurer covers the cost of giving birth in hospital, at a birthing centre or at home. Paid check-ups include ultrasound scans and, if you have a high-risk pregnancy, an amniotic fluid test and chorion villus sampling (test for inherited disorders).

NB:
Since 1 March 2014 women who suffer complications or illnesses from the 13th week of pregnancy until eight weeks after the birth no longer have to contribute to the cost of treatment.
Complications between the first week of pregnancy up until the 12th week are still classed as illnesses, so you will still have to contribute towards treatment costs during this period of the pregnancy.
If you choose to give birth in a hospital or birthing centre which is not on the list of the canton in which you live, you need to check that the costs will be met by your health insurer.
Health insurers only contribute to the costs of ante-natal courses if these are held in groups and are run by a midwife.
Hospital costs for babies also covered
Your health insurance also fully covers the cost of your baby’s stay in hospital following the birth. However, if your baby becomes ill, this is covered by the baby’s insurance, and you have to contribute to the costs (deductible and retention fee)."

Re: health checkup during pregnency

Does this mean that first USG to rule out ectopic pregnancy is also covered? It should be done before the 13 weeks period is up as it would be much too late and could be life threatening if performed after 3 months of pregnancy...

I got 3 babies here, and the 8 + 12 weeks ultrasounds were fully covered by my basic insurance.

Re: health checkup during pregnency

I had ultrasound when I was 7 weeks pregnant, and the cost was fully reimbursed by insurance.
