Fairly certain nobody will be able to help me with this & unsure if it should been in complaints section or just left...

So we moved back to the UK 4 months ago and have a weeks ski holiday booked next week; so I called to get travel insurance here in the UK.... and I can't becuse we haven't been UK resident for 6 months

Then I try swiss insurers just in case... unsuprisingly I can't get travel insurance because I'm not resident in Switzerland

Now getting increasingly worried about needing ambulance off the mountains (& the associated bill)... that's if we manage to get there given the snow predicted in the uk.

If anybody has come to any solutions to this predicament I'd love to hear them

Have you tied someone like the Austrian Alpine Club?

We used to be members when we lived in the UK as even with membership costs, it provided the cheapest insurance for snowsports in Europe.

The deal is not so good now days but it may be worth giving them a call (the link is to their UK office).

I have noticed that in some of the ski resorts you can purchase insurance and the time of buying your ski pass. check with your resort if they cater for this.

Couple of thoughts....

If you kept a UK bank account open while you were away you might be able to get their travel insurance (even if it isn't the cheapest)?

Or employers sometimes have schemes which might be worth checking out.

I have noticed that Swiss and Easyjet offer insurance when you book your flight - perhaps you can get some that way?

Same of you pay by credit card ?
And who doesen't these days
However not sure if that covers helicopters off swiss Alp tops ... keep to the blues avoid the blacks and you are probably covered already

Thanks for this - I checked and we can get cover with the ski passes to get us off the mountain - this was the major concern we had as we know how expensive those helicopters are.

Unfortunately these avenues have all been explored and require 6 months UK residency as does any travel insurance linked to our buildings insurance (although we kept the house whilst we were in Switzerland)

At least we now have the major potential costs covered - as for the rest we'll just have to hope for a smooth journey

If you are worried about helicopter rescue why don't you join REGA - they will cover you even if you are not a Swiss resident.

I had already contacted them & they quoted me over £600!!

Decided to not get travel insurance but we bought the resort cover for the helicopter rescue and had the european health insurance card so we could claim back emergency treatment from the NHS.
