personal liability insurance for travelers?

Hey folks,

So, I guess the simplest way to phrase this question would be - do you need to be registered in Switzerland to get personal liability insurance?

I have dual Swiss-Canadian citizenship, but am here for a few months on my Canadian passport, and am looking to rent a short-term apartment. It's my first time doing any of this! What should I be particularly aware of?

Thanks lots.
