Re: Health insurance for newborn

Just normal insurance, our son spend six weeks in intensive care. The cost covered 100% by the hospital I think in the end.

For those of you whose babies experienced problems at birth (sorry to hear and hope they are fine now), which type of insurance did you have to cover the costs? Was it just basic or did you have some supplementary ones?
That's somewhat missing the point. Get the insurance set up before you actually give birth. That way all costs should be covered automatically.

You basically fill in all the forms and submit them to the insurance company. They then have everything on file and all you have to do is give the date of birth and name (when you have them!) and all should be fine.

Re: Health insurance for newborn

It is always best to get an unborn full insurance whilst still in the womb. Basic insurance will cover most things, but its by no means comprehensive. An insurance company has to give full cover to an unborn (assuming there is nothing wrong already) but if the child is born needing special treatment not covered by basic insurance, they (all companies) will decline to offer insurance.

Yes, I do plan to arrange the basic insurance before birth. However, there is also a huge range of supplementary insurances available and I cannot take them all! I'm just trying to figure out what ones are advisable/essential in the event of something going wrong and good to have set up prior to birth.
