New health cards: AHV number for toddlers?

Hi,
Does anyone of you is facing this:
I received a letter from my health insurance company asking for AHV/AVS number of my daughter (22 months old). The letter states that if I do not provide it by the end of the month I will not be able to receive the health card that entitles her to receive treatments and drugs without upfront payment.
The letter states that I shall contact my local council "gemeinde" to receive one, and they told me that I shall contact the Ausgleichkasse. I did and they asked me if I was insured with company xxx (usual suspects, I am afraid!!!) and that their request does not make sense as you do not have a number if you do not work... and a 2 year old is supposed not to!
So I contacted xxx and they confirmed what was written in the letter and said that I shall go to the gemeinde to request the number.

Anyone faced the same problem and succeeded in getting out of this circle, and how?

that's news to me - this topic came up for me recently and it was indicated that the AHV number would arrive as the child is in the teens.

this was not demanded of me when setting up health coverage with Sanitas for my newborn Bub.

Must say it sounds odd.
I know a good insurance broker in Basel that could probably help you - PM me if you are interested.

Re: New health cards: AHV number for toddlers?

Thanks a lot Carlos but I got through it. I had the HR dept of the company where I work to contact the Ausgleichkasse to get the number. They provided that but also told that this insurance company is acting against the rule as they are forcing the insured people to do something that they are supposed to do behind the scenes. I am looking forward to changing my insurance company!

We got the AHV number for our 17 month kid ,from our Gemeinde without any hassles. I agree that is something Insurance company should do. I never knew my elder kid already has an AHV number until I recieved the new Insurance Cards , don't know why couldn't they do the same for our younger one.

Re: New health cards: AHV number for toddlers?

Hi,
interesting to see this thread after trying to find information regarding the AHV number for myself and our two kids.

We are insured with a certain Swiss insurance company and we are frontaillers. My hubby works in Switzerland I am a stay-at-home mum. This certain insurance company has been unable to provide the kids and I with insurance cards as apparently there is a problem with the microchip information when I do not have an AHV number. I have been calling them once a month since the beginning of the year and every time they keep telling me to wait and just carry our insurance policies with us in case we need to show them at the doctors etc.

I finally telephoned another branch of the same insurance company and was told that me and kids should be 'sub-listed' under my husband's AHV number. I went to the AHV office today and was told that this can't be done and i should contact the Ausgleichskasse in Geneva. I emailed them today and am waiting to hear what happens next.

I wonder if this is a problem with the insurance company as when we were insured by another Swiss company last year we all got cards. Only these cards did not have a microchip.

Does anybody have any further knowledge on this?

I could be very wrong, but isn't one of the points of a Forum like EF to share useful information (even if it's naming-and-shaming) rather than just cryptic xxxs and "certain"s?

It really doesn't make sense to me to ask for help regarding xxx, whilst not providing the name of the real xxx so that others (who may or may not be the ones trying to assist) may be warned that xxx could be a pain if you have young children, so go with someone like Sanitas

Give to as well as take from EF, as it were... Or am I just very old-fashioned, and behind the times?

Re: New health cards: AHV number for toddlers?

Sorry, I assumed that the moderators or somebody had done the 'xxx' later in order to cover the insurance company's name and simply just followed suit with 'certain'. I have no problem revealing that the company I am talking about is called Vivao Sympany.

Re: New health cards: AHV number for toddlers?

Do you get the 'kinderzulagen' on your husband's salary - I wonder if there are numbers attached to that ? Our kids are registered that way... I'm not sure if they are 'AHV numbers'...

I'm pretty sure we weren't asked for AHV numbers.

Yes, we do get the Kinderzulagen but apparently this is a completely separate thing and nothing to do with the AHV.
