Hmmm......somehow reminds me of a guy called Assange....
Well, no. Assange never denied having sex with the lady involved in his case. The difference is the (absurd) Swedish law that a woman can have consensual sex, change her mind afterwards and press charges...

What the media reported in this case was a man physically overpowering a female and forcing her to have sex. It can't get a clearer rape than that.

So on the one side you have some bizarre legal situation that was possibly exploited by more than only the female involved. On the other side do you have a crystal clear claimed rape. That's what makes it so hard to believe. A smear campaign is one thing, a real rape another... if you are in a position as DSK and he gets tricked like assange into a honey trap - ok. But he really has the money to pay a lady and does not need to rape the cleaner, no? If it is true, he must have some drug problem or the like as well.

This is an obvious [and reasonable] conclusion to jump to, given his political standing and reported past ways with women.
Then again, we shall have to wait and see what unfolds, because to me, it almost seems to brazen a trap.

He has been subjected to medical examination, as has presumably the maid (who the manager of the Hotel has said has been with them for 3 yrs without incident), He left his mobile & personal items behind in an apparent dash for the flight. A local official of the Socialist party has also come forward to claim an alleged attack on her daughter that was hushed up in 2002.

I often admire the French for their general indifference to their politicians private lives, but if he is found to be a sexual predator who abuses his postion and power to 'get away with it' as it were, then frankly I hope they throw the book at him.
If it was a trap the chambermaid will likely get fired & never find another hotel job.
She would need a lot of money to cover that situation & how could she hide such a large sum from the investigators?
Does not seem likely?

Cause in 6 months everybody has forgotten about it while Sarko will have no competition anymore. So yes it is possible it is a trap.

But it is also still possible the girl actually got attacked. The fact that he has enough money does not mean anything, then there should not be rape at all in the western world.

My uneducated guess is that it is a trap, but first get some proof cause being raped is bad, but being raped and then accused of trapping is worse.

There might be a bit more to the story that will come out over then next few days once all the details are collected.

Seems this guy has a bit of a problem if you follow some of the previous reports of "incidents".

This is a tape of a 2007 French show where a lady describes her encounter with DSK.

This is the English subtitled version.

Ok, so there are differences then. But still think the Assange case is a witch hunt.
Yes, Swedish law is really bizarre as, in addition to what you said, "rape" constitutes
consensual sex without a condom..and then a change of heart......

Re: D. Strauss-Kahn IMF Director accused of sexual assault

Maybe he could get a sentence involving a luxury villa in Gstaad à la Polanski?

Seriously though, honey trap or not, there is a duty to uphold the law whoever the alleged perpetrator happens to be. I have no more insight into this case than anyone else here, but it's going to be a "her word against his" deal and have no doubt that the lawyers are already rubbing their hands together and updating their golf club memberships in eager anticipation of a financial windfall. Pity the woman if she was attacked and all of the fallout she's experiencing.

AWESOME!!!

100% true.
The "lady" describing her encounter with DSK*.

*on a gossip crappy TV show. Which she seems to like very much, feel confident telling the "story", etc...
Apparently he (the guy that looks 100KG easily) layed on her while she was on the ground and unbuttoned her bra.*

*without leaving marks, all professionally, etc...
Also she was wearing a turtle neck top: but still he managed to remove the bra she had underneath.

Of course she probably debated but she has no marks, nothing (or he will be in jail after the police report).

Wait she reported it to the police, instead of in the trendy crappy tv show?

Anyway that guy's a pro. If anyone is able to remove a bra from a debatting woman, under her turtle neck tshirt while being on top of her while causing no harms/injuries-... then that's a pro.

Awesome she did not want to report it to the police because she did not want to be seen as the girl who had problems with a politician.

Very true!
Instead she should go to the crappy trendy show in the TV to be watched by about 10millions people.

Of course!
How could I doubt her for a second? Silly me!

Re: D. Strauss-Kahn IMF Director accused of sexual assault

DSK is a well-known womanizer in France. There were also a lot of sexual harassment claims against him in France from female journalists. The french media avoided the topic (wrongly i guess). The french writer who accused him of rape never filed an official legal claim against him....we don't know why.
But what we know is that Sarkozy's friend always told they have a lot of things/material against him and if he decided to run against Sarkozy they will use his sexual weakness. One reason for Sarkozy to send DSK to IMF is to have him far away from France. Last week there was a media campaign orchestrated by sarkozy's friend because of a picture of DSK getting in a Porsche belonging to one of his friend!

On the other hand do I know something else: If I was a prominent person and some women would wrongfully claim publicly that I sexually assaulted her, I'd press charges myself - for an injunction. That would get me a lot of positive PR after all...

If it were a political hit job, smart money would put the whole thing closer to the election rather than give the opposition plenty of time to find an alternate.

it means that once DSK resigned from IMF, got back to France.....where it's much more difficult to "trap" him and the media are not as quick as in the US to make it public (i.e condemning him already on the headlines). It's easier to attack for sexual harassement in the US that in France. So I do think it was best done in the US and not france.

While I agree, some thoughts:

1. You cannot come up with a candidate in a week. It's the middle of may right now. Socialist primaries are in October and any candidate would need to be known within the next weeks. Ideally now already, but for technical reasons not later than say middle of July.

2. If it was a trap - would you really wait till he went through the primaries? Right now it's a scandal, but if you do it then you are on a Watergate-level. Right now is a timing that hurts the left enought to make them most likely lose the election but it is not that suspicious yet that you could as well have shot him in the head...

At the moment, economic topics are dominating the news and will likely decide the next election in all major EU country: Who do you trust the most being competent to get us out of the Euro problems? DSK was an economist and not a bad one... Royal or all other French socialist candidates have far less credibility when it comes to economic topics.

Disagree. they started already the campaign for 2012. (less than a year away).
And: there's no "opposition" beside DSK- Who else in the "left"?
There's only unpopular persons, losers.

So it's close enough to the election and targeted a strong opponent, if not the sole one.

You've got to feel for the woman.

If she really was assaulted and even if he gets tried and found guilty, there will always be people who will doubt her.

That can't be nice.

As for me whether guilty or not (which is not my problem) those "shenanigans" only involved politicians:

It's their sort of "game", one is involved in a scandal, everyone talks about it (and forget the other craps), etc.... Then it's the "other ones" who use that to critic and show how they are perfect and how they blame him/her; until it's their turn.

Of course all against the "not guilty prior judgment" and other legal rights we have-

100% agree.

I think she has the right for her privacy and that she is not seen as the "girl who had problems with a politician".

Therefore she should go to a crap monger TV show and tell 10 million people about it.

Oh and collect a few thousands quids/dollars/chf in the process thanks to the numerous crapspreader magazine who will want her "story", erm I mean her facts.
