The key here is timing. For the elections, it absolutely does not matter if he did it or not - he will most likely miss the socialist pre-elections. And which party member would seriously vote for a candidate locked up in a New York prison hoping he is innocent? Not when it comes to a presidential campain. The twist is that DSK was known for his, er, "weakness" and there are few people with more enemies in France right now... Sarkozy must have been afarid of him and many socialists did not want him to be the candidate either.

I am normally not buying any conspiracy theories, but this event is just too bizarre to be true without anything hidden underneath. The one guy that could become dangerous for the president rapes a hotel cleaner just before the pre-elections... and on the other side is a president that was unscrupuluous before when he misused the secret service to spy on journalists he did not like.
P O O R W I F E !
I think, that's the bottom line.

This was headline news on several broadcasters bulletins. That he's accused - and still presumed innocent! - being deemed more newsworthy than other matters of global and political import seems either a sad indication of priorities or there's more to the story than journalists can suggest.

Sensation in place of responsible editorial policy? Perish the thought...
You mean you were expecting more reports on the porn stash they found in Bin Laden's home?

he was apparently having lunch with his daughter in a big restaurant where loads of people saw him when he was apparently with the cleaning woman..
Probably not so easily solved; he was denied bail today.

I would have loved to see his face when the NYC detectives boarded the plan.

I was listening to the news on the radio.

Then there was some "verbal article" about the whole situation.

What was he doing in a 3000 (cant remember currency) a night suit, why was the chambermaid in there at 13:00.. He has an apartment in the same city..
He had a lunch date with his daughter at 12:00.. was seen at the restaurant etc..

(i wasn't really listening - i'm not that interested..)

Dont get me wrong - i am the first to cut off a guys JT if it behaves inappropriately. But to accuse someone for the sake of slander, and winning some political points?!

This what chambermaids do. You check out before lunch time then they clean the room before the next guest arrives

They do the room once the client has left the room not before. She was (wrongly) told by an employee that room was empty

Does not mention a NY apartment here?
French newspapers have inventoried the couples real estate holdings, which reportedly include a six-room apartment in Paris' chic 16th arrondisement; a 240-square-meter apartment on the luxurious Place des Vosges; a home in Marrakech, and a house in Washington.

French media mention an apartment in NY as director of IMF.
He paid the hotel bill with his private credit-card.

Re: D. Strauss-Kahn IMF Director accused of sexual assault

He has no flat in NYC and this is why he told the judge he would stay at his daughter's who does live there..instead he will spend the night in prison.

His hotel room was not 3000 dollars but more like 500 dollars says europe1 one of the most important French radio.

And now that Journalist who said she was assaulted 7 years ago by DSK but who did not press charges at the time because her mom told her not to ,is today considering pressing charges by the end of this week!

So seduction involves force?

what i don't understand is that they can make such a statement when the DNA results will not be found until another 3 days.

But it is true that they found some scratching on his body which showes that he might have been involved in a fight!

The other thing I don't understand is why would he have phoned the sofitel on his way to the Airport to ask them to return to him the mobile phone he'd forgotten in his room? He was supposed to have left in a rush and the last thing he would have wanted was for the police to trace him and locate him at the airport with a phone call?
