D. Strauss-Kahn IMF Director accused of sexual assault

The chief of the International Monetary Fund - Dominique Strauss-Kahn nicknamed "the great seducer" - was dragged off a flight at Kennedy Airport saturday after a Manhattan hotel maid accused him of sexual assault.

DSK is also seen as the favourite candidate of french socialist to run against Sarkozy in 2012 for presidential elections.

He had already a sex scandal when he started at IMF.

Terrible! it looks like a trap to me...but who knows let's wait for the investigation.

Re: D. Strauss-Kahn IMF Director accused of sexual assault

I agree, looks very fishy. Sarkozy needs all the help he can get to have any chance of re-election.

If I remember correctly, DSK's other scandal was an affair with a classy aide, not grabbing a random chambermaid in his hotel room. So we need to look carefully at the ideas: 1) She's a golddigger who made it all up for her own motives; 2) She was put up to it by one or other of DSK's political enemies. If it turns out to be true, then he really is ruled by his genitals and not his brain.

DSK already had a bad week by being photographed getting out of a top of the range Porsche. After all the socialist moaning about Sarkozy's extravagant lifestyle, that was not a wise choice.

I fear that whether he is guilty or not, this incident has severely dented his chances of being France's next president.

Re: D. Strauss-Kahn IMF Director accused of sexual assault

This was headline news on several broadcasters bulletins. That he's accused - and still presumed innocent! - being deemed more newsworthy than other matters of global and political import seems either a sad indication of priorities or there's more to the story than journalists can suggest.

Sensation in place of responsible editorial policy? Perish the thought...

I'm not getting the rope and horses just yet; he's still presumed innocent. Those kinda political sabotage games are best left to the Italians. Then again, Sarko is well advised by the 50ft woman who looks after his rent.

Re: D. Strauss-Kahn IMF Director accused of sexual assault

DSK is the only socialist candidate that is a threat for Sarkozy. He can collect voices from left and the centre. For Sarkozy in order to guarantee his re-election he needs a weak socialist candidate and a strong extreme-right candidate: in second round everyone would vote for Sarkozy. So DSK was his biggest hurdle on the path to presidential elections. DSK is well known for his weakness regarding women and sex. To me it looks like a trap, but we need to get his version of the story. Innocent or not it is already a big damage for his image as presidential candidate.

I hope that this matter gets him out in the SocialistParty run for presidential candidate. If he got the candidacy, the right-wingers would jump on his "German" name and his being a Jew . And that would be a very ugly scenario . Nobody in France opposes to France being governed by a HABSBURGER of HA/OE/CH origin, but the man at least has a Hungarian name

Sarkozy right now, thanks to the Libya-matter, is in a definte top-position. But if anything goes wrong in French-domestic politics, his old colleague and arch-rival, Dominique de Villepin, will jump onto the wagon

You should not look at Mr Sarkozy in this regard but, for example, at Mrs Sgolne Royal , who is far more interested to get Mr STRAUSS-K... out

STRAUSS-KAHN in my view might be a most excellent French president, sure. But I at this time see his adversaries not so much on the RIGHT side but within his own party. This in fact is how French politics works, did work and will work

In a court of law, perhaps. But in the eyes of the average "there's no smoke" voter?

The damage is done.

Re: D. Strauss-Kahn IMF Director accused of sexual assault

It looks so fishy:

1) How come the cleaning lady entered the room while he was in?
They are always, always very careful. If he was in the shower they would hear him.

2) Immediately you see the great comments for the cleaning lady. For having attending many many hotels and I knew hotel staff, I can tell you managers hardly care about the cleaning ladies and hardly know them. But they know that one and vouch for her immediately?

3) Context: the man known as flirting, etc... Since when the french politicians became saints? They crap on him and avoid to talk about the fraud they doing regularly, or the crap they made in Libya.

4) The lust of power: all those dickheads french politicians are all excited by the coming elections. Of course they would do anything to get the seat.

5) What if that story is wrong? who cares the "news"/"media" (crap spreader) are already showing how he mistreated women because he once had a fight with one (....)- Fatso, you're out already.

This is an obvious [and reasonable] conclusion to jump to, given his political standing and reported past ways with women.
Then again, we shall have to wait and see what unfolds, because to me, it almost seems to brazen a trap.

He has been subjected to medical examination, as has presumably the maid (who the manager of the Hotel has said has been with them for 3 yrs without incident), He left his mobile & personal items behind in an apparent dash for the flight. A local official of the Socialist party has also come forward to claim an alleged attack on her daughter that was hushed up in 2002.

I often admire the French for their general indifference to their politicians private lives, but if he is found to be a sexual predator who abuses his postion and power to 'get away with it' as it were, then frankly I hope they throw the book at him.

Re: D. Strauss-Kahn IMF Director accused of sexual assault

Who on earth would want an IMF stooge running their country anyway? (forget that question because obviously there around). Just another bureaucracy that continues to make mistakes, ruin economies and its taxpayers without any consequences whatsoever. Sounds like politics i guess.

Yeah!
The guy is rich, famous, powerful.

And yet he allegedly needs to try raping the cleaning lady for sex????

Either he is dumb and don't know how to use his advantages, or it's a crap story.

I tend to the 2nd explanations as I'm sure he made good use of his situation.

The key here is timing. For the elections, it absolutely does not matter if he did it or not - he will most likely miss the socialist pre-elections. And which party member would seriously vote for a candidate locked up in a New York prison hoping he is innocent? Not when it comes to a presidential campain. The twist is that DSK was known for his, er, "weakness" and there are few people with more enemies in France right now... Sarkozy must have been afarid of him and many socialists did not want him to be the candidate either.

I am normally not buying any conspiracy theories, but this event is just too bizarre to be true without anything hidden underneath. The one guy that could become dangerous for the president rapes a hotel cleaner just before the pre-elections... and on the other side is a president that was unscrupuluous before when he misused the secret service to spy on journalists he did not like.
