Apparently the CERN breaking the speed of light may have been, wait for it, a loose cable.

But alternatively, it could mean the speed listed was incorrect and could have been faster than was first though.

Will the speeding fine be in 'salary days'? For the whole of CERN that would add up a bit!

No it wouldn't. After all the difference was in the nanoseconds range. Even with more than 10,000 people on staff that still is way inside the speeding fine tolerance.
