BBC World News, Reuters and Libyan National Transition Council, states that Gaddafi has been captured in Sirte. He is wounded in both legs, and is in an ambulance and being taken to Misrata hospital, 200 Km to the west. http://maps.google.ch/maps?hl=en&tab=wl | | This user would like to thank for this useful post:

Now the west can get it's almost free supply of light sweet crude!
And if he's dead then he won't be able to tell the tales about the deals in the desert
Cameron and Sarkosy will be rubbing their hands in glee and will probably not be able to stop themselves from telling the world how they liberated Libya! | | The following 5 users would like to thank The_Love_Doctor for this useful post:

We will surely miss him. He has provided much merriment and kept the media away from equally unsavoury leaders.

Qaddafi was a tyrant like many other US backed dictators...but executions like this are not the mark of democratic countries espousing values like justice & morality

In western Europe we are used to democratic governments and policemen with morals. I am reading a "funny" history book "1000 years of annoying the French" and the conditions for citizens living 600 years ago were similar to today's life under Arab dictators. You can't just impose democracy on a nation as the US would like, the commitment from the people has to be there. The dictators have to be controlled by the citizens' police & army.

It was already embarrassing enough when one of his sons told the media at the beginning of the war "Look at those French - now they attack us with the Rafales we didn't want to buy last year..."
The Colonel had surely a treasure chest of stories he could have released on many European politicians happily spending fun holidays on the not so crowded side of the Med, or how nice people played when they wanted his oil... or oil money.

Its a process, we remove a tyrant but is there an existing leadership mature enough with complete backing of citizens to take over and move ahead.
Have the ordinary Libyans risen?
