U.S. Veterans day 2011

In honor of today being Veterans Day in the US, I'd like to take a minute to thank any of the Americans on the forum who may be current or former U.S. servicemen. What you do (or did) is hard, dangerous, not always understood (by yourself and others), and not always appreciated as much as it should be.

I'd also like to thank my parents (both) for their service in the US Navy, and my brother for his current service in the US Navy.

Re: U.S. Veterans day 2011

Also, in this light, I would like to thank the servicemen/women of US allies, who have stood beside my country's servicemen in some of their most dire moments, and without whom much of the US's success would not be possible.

Lastly, I would also like to thank the members of the Swiss Armed Forces, as they serve to protect the freedoms and opportunities I, as a resident, currently enjoy.

I'm sure I will get some groans, but as an anti-bellicist and as a citizen of a country once invaded by the US Army I don't share your feelings.

Well, to make you feel better, which country has the US NOT invaded?

On a more serious note, this festival extravaganza has nothing to do with the politics but with the people involved the Armed forces...ya know, sacrifices, tears, pride etc. soooo, I understand, that it kinda sucks to be invaded and all ..and I am also against militaries etc. but I still don't disregard the many paychecks the US Army is handing out and how many opportunities it has given to people to develop themselves (be it educational or skillwise).

Yes, and that was how California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, most of Arizona and Colorado, and parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Wyoming became part of the US.

it's called history.

do you share these same feelings towards Spain? they invaded Mexico.

n.b.... co'mon... if you're going to be anti-U.S... and Veterans Day... at least chose an event to rally against from the last century... Lord knows we ( the U.S. side of me that is ) have enuf to answer for without digging up wars from 2 centuries ago. )
