| Controversial claim from Merkel ally that EU countries all follow Berlin's lead - and Britain should fall into line. Berlin declared last night that Europe is speaking German and Britain must be less selfish toward the EU.
The UK has a duty to help the eurozone despite being outside the single currency, according to one of Angela Merkel’s closest allies.
Even more provocatively, Volker Kauder warned Britain could not block a financial tax that would cost the City billions.

Mr Kauder did NOT say that
Europe is speaking German but that German suddenly is spoken in Europe, which means that many in Europe so much depend on Germany that they have to accept German advice
In regard to Britain, the CDU-chief deplored the lack of active participation of the U.K. in the E.U. and that Britain rather behaved as if being just an associate of the E.U.
Brits in view of history should be realistic. True enough, Germany in a period of its history (1000 years in theory, 12 years in reality) tried to get world dominance, but Britain for two or three centuries HAD world dominance and maintained this by their famous canon-boat diplomacy. Not that the rest of the club was any better

-- sure not.
I personally would welcome Britain to play a more active role in the E.U. and reduce the power of the Berlin-Paris axis
