If men of that country could just take responsibility of their own desire instead to put it on the women...
Oh... And men up!

Stapling male eyelids shut is the way to go. Then women could drive too...

Remember the Daleks from Dr Who. Maybe they should get the ladies to travel inside those so completely hidden from view? Equipped with weapons would also be a good idea?

Molière's Tartuffe play on hypocrisy couldn't be more appropriate in this situation: " Cachez ce sein que je ne saurai voir"*

| | | | | Well, some of them do. I would say majority in a Gulf. Just imagine, plenty of money, no need to work, all day can be spent shopping and taking care of body.
Plus they get engaged in own business as well.

Yep. I can see the majority of women liking this.

We can't say what majority of those women like or dislike..yet we keep projecting our cultural values on them. And what if they do like it, does that make them lesser than us?
I can't make a comment on covering eyes, though I certainly have a personal opinion about this, it would be hard for me. But.
Just knowing, that cultures vary in what they consider important, the level of restriction they proudly subject themselves to, personal discipline, sacrifice, religious reasons, respect..I think the way we were raised and the freedom (are we really that much more free than those who live over there..spiritually) we so often take for granted (even me from nutty regime, women were strong) shouldn't make us not understand and disrespect the cultural conditioning and values that women in other cultures have.

Can we draw any conclusion from that?
The world's dictators also tell us that they are better for their people than democracy, yet no democracies vote to get rid of the vote and implement dictatorship. Interestingly, the places where women's freedom is restricted tend to be dictatorships or weak democracies. Coincidence?
See, there's a pattern. Generally people like personal freedom.

I just think that culturally, sometimes with some people, the concept of personal freedom is very different than what we consider it to be.

But regarding the Saudi proposal, I think it’s one of those nuts clerics and nothing like that really will happen. Time by time they are coming up with crazy news.

It's subject to interpretation.
People find comfort in familiar cultural values, regardless if these are restrictive or not, so I can understand what MusicChick is saying.
Nevertheless this is a step too far, and hopefully will not become a reality.
If you are raised to believe certain things and ways of life, they do become a truth to you even if the rest of the world is different.

Yep. I can see the majority of women liking this. | | | | | But are you judging this from a westernized world?
Many women embrace and adore this way of life. Truth and I should know, given my family background. Still, I say "many" as we know that there are indeed local women rebelling against the culture.
