I have such vivid memories of this. I was sitting watching the news in my in-laws-to-be living room on my 1st ever visit there. I really struggled to hold it together.
He really was a Kind of Magic

I clearly remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news. Truly tragic -- they (it) got the wrong guy in 1991. And it's sad, although of course also wonderful, that AIDS took Freddie when in the same year, Magic Johnson announced that he was HIV+ and has lived a healthy life ever since (he even got married and had a son).
I feel very, very fortunate to have seen Queen perform live in the early 80s -- a totally unforgettable experience.
I have to admit that I'd rather Freddie were remembered for something other than Heaven For Everyone, though (sorry, lifeisabuffet ... ). Freddie, I hope you're Doing All Right up there.
R.I.P.

On this note, it was announced this week that the "We Will Rock You" musical will be returning to Switzerland soon.
I saw it in Toronto, and it's definitely a fun tribute with all the great hits involved.
I received the tickets as a Bday gift from the SO who was very impressed. After the show she was couldn't believe that there were so many songs she recognized, and they were all Queen hits. Was convinced that some of them were by other bands covered in the style of Queen.
Nope my dear, there you have the most successful British band to date

I'll second that --I saw WWRY in London when it opened, years ago, and it was breathtaking. Presumably that cast has moved on, but I'm sure whoever plays in this touring production will be great, too.
Still can't believe it. Never saw him live but went to his 60th birthday celebration event some years ago in Montreux. I wonder if there's anything special on now too.
Freddy Mercury - Singer of Songs, Lover of Life
What's YOUR favorite Freddy/Queen song? Mine is I was Born to Love You.
The college I went to used to be known as "The Rock Heaven" in the University.
And although I was not into Rock so much at that time, I undoubtedly spent a lot of my time listening to PinkFloyd, Queen, Deep Purple, Pearl Jam, Mettalica.
One of my favorites from that time, and still is "Another one bites the dust".
