So Switzerland has fewer problems with racism than the Gulnare Freewill Baptist Church in Pike County, Kentucky? That is indeed good to know.

Some people really have issues with inter racial marriages. Of all the countries I have lived in I find Swiss to be the most accepting. Some might not like foreigners but mixed marriage seems to be ok for some reason.

Cant speak for some hillbilly equivalent in Schwyz though

I mean, hello...there's a reason why most of the US consider most states south of the M&D line to be a bit...backwards. It's not a lot different than not permitting women to vote or not allowing women to keep their maiden name after marriage (until this year) except, well, it's a lot cooler to bitch about racism than sexism, ain't it?

Well I have heard of other religious groups, not only Christians, not tolerating mixed marriages within their communities. They will expel any current members from their community forever if they engage in mixed marriages.
Their wish is to keep their "race" pure. They have a hard time keeping their young members interested though. Most of the young members "move away" and join other religious groups and marry the people they want to marry.

I disagree with this statement. I did my BA in Kentucky..and was in an interracial relationship. The family was very accepting...and so was the environment.
On the contrary here..I cannot go out with my OH without people staring at her, thinking she's a whore or get hit on when I'm not around.

I see a lot of mixed race couples in Fribourg, more than I ever remember seeing when living in the UK.
Having said that, our neighbours and good friends in Oxford were mixed race and his job took him to Birmingham, Alabama. I was always curious as to how they got on there.

Mixed marriages as in different colour skin... It's something I just LOVE seeing... Everytime I see it, and then the little kids.. I feel a big warm bubble in side knowing that's the way to world peace!

I used to work with a guy who was fuming about his daughter being in a mixed realtionship. I learnt some quite, um, "colourful" vocabulary.

my backwoods Mississippi redneck relatives were more accepting of my mixed marriage (to an Arab to boot) than most people in Switzerland. I never got the polygamy and the virgin jokes back home the way I do here. My favorite was when I was sitting at my first job and a coworker who wasn't a friend found a way to bring up polygamy or 9/11 every effing day. Or when the health insurance company made me send a notarized copy of his passport because they thought his B permit was a fake (note they did not ask for my passport in any shape or form), you know, because north Africans can never be born in France and have French nationality *eye roll* . Or when we systematically got stopped in the street and asked for our Ausweis for flagrant "walking while brown." It doesn't matter if he is in Zurich or Geneva, he has learned NOT TO RUN FOR A TRAM because a brown person running, even in a 3k suit, is obviously a pickpocket and will be stopped.

Institutionalized racism is scary. And bad shizz happens in the US, I went to the University of Mississippi so I should know, but I can't stand European finger pointing and laughing when what I see here is just as bad as what I saw in Mississippi and in my personal case, worse.

Europeans are more arrogant and direct in their political incorrectness, anything to be surprised here?
