The Falkland war was a social disaster. I also think that Great Britain has some far more serious problems to solve than this (>20% Youth Unemployment is an extremely alarming trend). The last thing you'd want is wast the resources you don't have on a silly war in the South Atlantic!

So you think Britain should roll over and abandon the Falkland Islands and its people to the Argentinians? The "Falklands effect" did very nicely for Maggie at the polls, it could the same again for Cameron.
Nothing like winning war to mask problems at home...

Considering the Falkland Islanders consider themselves British and wish to remain so, I see this as nothing more than populist propaganda by Mrs. Fernandez de Kirchner, unless she wants to invade again | | This user would like to thank PaddyG for this useful post: | |

We struggle to beat them at footie, so it's probably best to stick at what we're good at.

OK, those Royal Navy Sea Harriers will see off the Daggers and Skyhawks.
Wait, the UK retired all the Sea Harriers (SHARs) a couple of years ago. No carriers either right now. There are 5 RAF Typhoon (Eurofighters) currently deployed at Mount Pleasant airfield.
There won't be a war. Just some rhetoric and people jumping onto political bandwagons.

Pretty much the type of action I predicted back in May in this thread Royal couple face separation if Prince William deploys to Falklands
which goes on a bit as most fellow EFers who replied responded as if I were a mentalist to suggest that posting Wills would be provocative!
Remember this is not hardly about some unattractive island sheep grazing grounds - it is about oil. It is not just about Argentina it is about Venezuela and more.

The Falkland Islands should belong to Argentina. It's ridiculous for the UK to claim that an island halfway around the world and directly off the coast of Argentina is part of its territory. If they haven't noticed, we're no longer stuck in the 18th century. Well maybe they haven't, seeing as they bother keeping a monarchy around to this day.

Like Gibraltar, The Falklands, although tiny in peacetime play crucial roles in time of conflict because of their locations. http://www.falklands.info/history/histarticle24.html
They are British, populated by mainly British people who uphold British law, Britain is obliged to protect them.
