| | | Wikipedia Will Blackout for 24 Hours to Protest U.S. Piracy Law
Apparently they are concerned about the proposed legistation against Online Piracy
I will have to read more into this legislation; I thought it was just against online movie/music piracy

I will have to read more into this legislation; I thought it was just against online movie/music piracy | | | | | from my understanding it's also for counterfeit fighting. So if you're a brand owner and suspect a site of selling counterfeit you can (according to SOPA proposal) take it down without any court injunction.

Is it bad that I'm just really happy that I decided to do the English to German part of a translation full of previously unknown terms before I attacked the French to German version thereof? Also - aren't most Wiki users more of the "open source is great" persuasion whereas the powers to be just have their secretary look up stuff, thus never really knowing where the info comes from?

As I understand it, if any website is accused of posting copyright infringing material, they can be blocked.
So if I were to post a link to a music video on this website, and someone in the US decided they didn't like it, englishforum would be blocked.
No doubt it will simply be used to censor people too. Someone has views you don't like? Accuse them of copyright infringement and wrap them up in legal procedures.

Been watching this story develop on ''The Young Turks'' youtube channel over the last few weeks.
I think Facebook, Google and Amazon might be doing a blackout as well.
cheers

From what I heard SOPA has been shelved, now the concentration is on PIPA

I'll be like and they'll be like (or, more likely, the teenage )

So its just time to read without the footnotes. |

SOPA is just another example of the US government overextending itself beyond its Constitutional framework. I understand and agree with the desire to protect intellectual property, but I think this is possibly the most horrible way to go about protecting IP rights. IF it gets passed, I believe it will be ruled unconstitutional in the courts, or a subsequent Congress will refuse to fund its enforcement...

I'm heading down to my bomb shelter and will come out 24 hours later when everything's back to normal again.
