If that is the only reason, then I find it shocking too.
BTW: What I don't understand is why you put it into Living in Switzerland/Daily Life and insist it should not be moved?

I find myself in the very strange position of defending a possible future mod action
this is not related to living in Switzerland ( or even Sweden ) "Living in Switzerland > Daily life"
and the title says nothing regarding the content.
ok.. I think I'll go slap myself around a little now..
( altho I do agree with you it's stupid and a bit horrifying )

I agree with all the members above. It doesn't belong into daily life but in international affairs.
I find it horrifying too. I wish to know the whole story though...

Anyway, it's a horrible story. Let's hope the Norwegian authorities come back to their senses and reunite this family.

2 sides to every story
so the children where in the same bed as the parents, does this mean that the whole family where in a 1 room bedsit? not exactly the best conditions for 2 adults and 2 children

that does not at all mean this authorizes you to take the kids away...if it is ok for the family it is perfectly fine...
it is about traditions...habits...customs...one might not be comfortable with the kids in the other room...it is just a personal choice | Quote: | | | | | 2 sides to every story

I absolutely don't believe this is the full story and the real reason the children were taken away. Searched Norwegian media and the child protective services have not commented once what the reasons for taking away the children were.
And the issue at the moment does not seem to be about giving the children back, but if they should be sent back to India to live with relatives or rather be placed with Norwegian foster parents - surely if the reasons were so ridiculous, any court would give the children back to the parents immediately.

of course it isn't ok if its ok for the family! what a silly statement!!
Its perfectly fine in some countries to perform female circumcision, that doesn't make in right! and would result in prison in most other countries in the world. (for example)
Its perfectly fine in some places to send 5 year olds out to work in sweat shops for 20 hours a day for pennies, again, try that here, see what happens to you.

according to Norwegian media:
-children were placed, in emergency, with foster parents.
- this decision was confirmed by the court.
- child protective services have refused to comment what the reasons were.
- children's uncle came to Norway to take the children to India, but this was refused by Norwegian authorities, as according to the authorities, the request has to go through proper channels and they cannot simply send the kids to India with the uncle. This has caused all the uproar and issue, as according to the parents' lawyer, they are concerned that the children will lose their culture and language.
I can't find any reliable sources stating what the reasons for taking away the children were.

the only people who really know what happened are the parents, and the authorities, legally the authorities are not allowed to say what happened, so all you have is what the parents are saying, so hardly an unbiased view now is it.
the authorities don't take children away from there family without a very good reason, and without many many visits and chances to change (unless the kids are in imminent danger), so this really is a non story, sorry

really, think about it, do you really think its only about sleeping in the same bed and feeding by hand, do you really think the norwegian authorities would risk an international incident for something so trivial??
There is more to this story then the parents are telling, if you think otherwise then you are very naive
