Re: Gunned down in broad daylight

Police shot the bass-terd with a taser
he pulled the lead wires out of his face
and THEN tried swing at an officer with a lead pipe?

I would have pulled a gun and shot him until I heard "click-click-click"

which is apparently what the responding officers did.

an inquiry will find justifiable homicide ( surprise ? )

Re: Gunned down in broad daylight

Could they not have set the dog on him, it was desperate to get at him.
or
If they had no other choice other than shooting him, did they really need to shoot him 10 times, 5 of them with his back to them?

I would not.

You shouldn't give scared men weapons.

Re: Gunned down in broad daylight

If someone with a gun tells you to, for example, put down that lead pipe and lie on the floor, you do what you are told and argue about your rights later. Any other action is effectively suicide. (Certainly suicidal).

The reason why it seems such overkill is that it is the duty of the officers to ensure that the person is unable to present any further danger to the officers themselves and anyone else around. I.e. to make absolutely sure he was dead. Tasers are for non-lethal subdugation. Guns for lethal.

That is the way society has decided to protect itself. If you don't like it, then get the law changed. Don't complain about how awful the police are.

It's exactly the same in the UK, and presumably here. Armed police are trained to kill. However, I will say that if this had happened in the UK, the idiot would probably still be alive.

You expect a US police office to hit a stationary leg from 10m??

With rapid fire surely they'll hit something in the nether region.

nobody knows anything about the perpetrator yet. let the police give a response before we jump to conclusions about inappropriate use of force.

Because they're taught to shoot at the easiest target to hit - the body. Anytime the police fire their guns at someone, it's shooting to kill.

They tried less lethal force first (Taser), but it didn't work.

Uh no.

They're trained on use of force, with the gun being the weapon of last resort -- lethal force. Therefore, shots are to be aimed with purpose of killing, aimed at the head or the chest.

No laundry. It was one of those moments in life in which you see everything happening very slow, body temperature drops (feels like).

Fortunately there was a captain shouting "don't fire". I wonder what would have happened if he hadn't shouted.

I just took a wrong turn at the wrong time.
