Denmark Tops UN World Happiness Report

According to this article:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012...derful-reasons

Denmark is the best place to live.

Reading the article the writer mentions many things that could be said about Switzerland. It appears to win in the area of childcare and mothers being able to work - which is one of the common negative comments about CH that gets mentioned on here.

Cheers,
Nick

What would newspapers do without meaningless reports by useless organizations.

Denmark is not a horrible country BUT a lot of the Danes makes it a horrible place to live.

I for one think that my family and my kids (all Danes living in DK) are very nice people but the twat next door is to blame.

Yes it is horrible as well as 95% of the Danes. I also despise the remaining 5% that don't get it over with and leave.

One has no personal freedom, the weather is awful, it is flat everywhere, Sweden is very close, people are generally obnoxious (for more details see my comments in other threads). There is nothing to like, nothing.

In conclusion. Even if the population was wiped out, there would still be nothing to like but the wonderful silence and the lack of "natural disasters" and exotic bugs.

Re: Denmark Tops UN World Happiness Report

It's a pleasant country but ...

Personally, whenever I've been in Denmark, the people seemed rather dour and complained a lot. Yes, they were rightly proud of their egalitarian culture, efficient infrastructure, etc. But they ALL complained about the taxes. And the climate is rather sullen.

I can think of a lot worse places to live.

Still, top of the table? I'm a bit incredulous about that.

ElgggDK are fellow countrymen supposed to be extra special?

I have no negative views on Denmark but if someone from Denmark thinks that Denmark is not the best place then they should be entitled to their opinion.

To be honest, who gives a flying **** what you 'suggest', the guy is entitled to give his opinion.

And... yes, you did groan.

Re: Denmark Tops UN World Happiness Report

Oh, they used to rate Finland really high on this index, too. (Depending on which 'happiness' index you look at). I've not seen this one, but I'm sure it's in the top 5. I've come to believe that most of these things are based on highly speculative conditions, i.e. subsidized childcare, more than anything concrete such as high rates of alcohol abuse and suicide since, you know, people with problems like that aren't unhappy, they're 'ill' and therefore don't count in the surveys.

No...not at all.

And of course he/she is entitled to think and write what ever he/she likes. So am I and I do not see why it is necessary to be that harsh.

I groaned him/her for the post where he/she claimed I was groaning....bah...!!

And to answer your dumb question....you obviously gives a flying whatever to what I suggest.

Yep, but with his way of expressing said opinion, it's no wonder he doesn't fit in Danmark. Good for him he fits somewhere else. Other people didn't fit somewhere else and discovered they do fit in Danmark. No big deal really.

Re: Denmark Tops UN World Happiness Report

What is "happiness" anyway?

Some of the most melancholic people I met were also the most content (mainly in ouzeria in Greece) Could the compilers of this survey explain that, or would it involve too little "political agenda" and too much "understanding of the human condition"?

This seems to be in the papers again today, for some reason, which prompted me to search for it, as I knew it had been discussed here very recently.

Anyway, the entire report is available online if you want the full answer to that question.

Edit : Oh, I guess it was because the previous link in the OP was to an article from April about last year's report. So the new one still ranks Danes as the happiest, the Swiss third and the British down in 22nd place. The US is 17th, apparently.
