At 180cm, I consider myself merely neither "vertically challenged" nor "vertically gifted"...let's just say I'm "vertically adequate". I'm just putting the argument in perspective.

For some reason I think it has become more socially acceptable to say you don't date someone because he/she is too short than saying they are too skinny/overweight . I am not saying it is right or wrong, it is just the way I see it.

Since when do you need to give an excuse for not dating someone?

It's incredible, because overweight can lose weight(skinny can gain some), but short adult can not grow.

He wears the collars to hide his horrible neck. This is one thing plastic surgery can't do for him. The guy is responsible of what is wrong in the fashion industry with the anorexia and the impossible pressure on women.

I'm not talking about slim anyhow. I'm talking about skinny/underweight, which a heck of a lot of singers are these days. West Coast made a good point.

That's a lovely way to put it and I totally agree. But I suspect Lagerfeld to mean more or less the same. He speaks in a very dry way, marrying the German directness with the parisian impertinence. In countless interviews, he was asked about anorexia/thin/young/unrealistic ideals in fashion. I've always heard him be very honest about it: yes, fashion is presented for an ideal, and then the clients get their robes adapted to their not ideal body. Models are not real women but an aesthetic presentation accessoire. It's harsh and hard to hear, but that's the absolute truth all over the world for any marketing of product: the family shown on TV for selling margarine is not real either, not realistic and a prototypical social ideal too. Same with models.

The difference between Lagerfeld and me is that he doesn't care about the consequences of such a marketing, exactly as the margarine producers don't care about the caricature of a family image they are using. I do care about the consequences when there are any. And frankly, I care as much about the conservative restrictive image of family in media as about the body shape ideals for women and men.

Therefore: I have a bigger issue with the blond kid on the Kinder Schokoriegel than with the inadequate wording or a fashion guru.

There is a middle ground, you know - a weight that is good for the joints in your knees, good for your heart and good for your general well being. That's what people should strive to achieve - for themselves.

Because we live in a society that values thinness - even when it's quite extreme. I acknowledged that some people might find it offensive but I never did nor have any of the women I've known. And it's generally not as offensive as being called "fat" for this very reason.

Actually yes, some do. It's very common. Dieting/emotional eating. Worse still some women will attain this but do so by using unhealthy means since to be this underweight requires a drastic reduction in calories.
