Another question for debate:

If the people from the U.S. on here wish they could carry their loaded firearms around here (in Switzerland), how do they feel as they can't?

Less safe? Scared? Impotent?

And as has it has been said numerous times on this thread (the last time by MusicChick, in so many words), that guns don't kill people, people kill people (other weapons are available), do these ex-U.S. people carry anything purposely which they can a weapon in place of their firearm?
One poster on EF (I don't know if he's American) carries a stick (or half a construction tool), safely concealed in his car boot/trunk. But there is absolutely no suggestion that he would ever use it to cave someone's skull in.

I think you have a lot of cliches and preconcetions in your head that keeps you from thinking straight.

Anyway, interesting feedback from Kurt Russell that reflects how some people in the US think about gun control:

Try arguing with him. Windmill! Charge!

I do kinda think that a lot of pro gun people dream of being in an eighties action movie.

Funnilyenough, I do take issue with being allowed to carry a knife, though not for self defense, knives are incredibly useful, you can't peel an apple with a gun for example.

Then again, if I saw anyone who insisted on walking around with a large bowie knife displayed prominently on their belt and claiming it's their legal right to do so, I would avoid them by a very large berth.

While a knife is something everyone uses every day, no one is hunting deer in the city centre.

Well yes, technically you can use guns incredibly inefficiently to do things they weren't designed to, like cooking bacon

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7UW5AkWqOY

But I may as well reverse a car into my flat and cook off the exhaust and hope I have enough ventilation to not die form carbon monoxide poisoning.

I do think there's a place for guns, I've been to ranges and let off rounds, I'm not a bad shot with a pistol, but there's simply no place for them in every day life.

I don't see the argument from protection as it simply leads to an escalation in violence that will statistically put your life in greater danger.

Most criminals are desperate, not blood thirsty, and if you meet a blood thirsty one, they're sure as hell planned on you not having a chance to reach your gun.

You keep saying you want a discussion but instead of answering pretty simple questions, you repeatedly cut and paste stuff from the web.

If the questions are too difficult for you then just say so.

If you'd rather not answer then that itself is quite a useful answer.

Did you read it yourself?

He's talking about gun control with respect to terrorists.

Terrorists shot two Americans last year. 35,000 Americans were shot by other Americans in the same year.

And you say I'm not thinking straight and are delusional?

A statistician would tell you the number of gun owners compared to the number of gun accidents are very small.

Here is an interesting map for you:

Gun deaths per 100,000 people

Red: South and West, where guns are natural part of life. These are the States with poorest gun regulations.

Blue: Midwest, West Coast and Northeast, where guns are suspect tools only exacerbating societal violence.

Why do you keep making the generalization that all gun owners are irresponsible and trigger-happy idiots? Most gun owners I know are very responsible and intelligent.
Clearly none of them are from the god fearing Jesusland (KKK Redneck South and trigger-happy shoot first, ask later wild West)

I cut and paste? I don't need to. I just tell you the facts that gun ownership is legal in America, and you freak out already.

I think you're having trouble admitting your opinions aren't affecting reality. Well, you have to grow up sometime.

It's legal in many countries. It's just that the controls are tighter elsewhere. And they appear to work.

Because you are having trouble coming to grips with the difference between facts and opinions. Look at the last couple of pages, and note how many times you've tried to attack me personally for stating facts, that are not even my opinions.

And then I'm now a southern redneck. Hee haw! It's pretty stupid, really.

You lack objectivity.

I think there's been more than enough personal attacking on your part.

I can write what I want about Guns, Jesus, abortion control and guns and more guns and how they are linked in America.

It's called personal freedom - something you suggested you espoused.

Is it any of my business? Who cares?

You take enough umbrage with Obama and you keep stating your love for Trump and his policies. Isn't that your opinion too? Or is it a message from God or something freaky like that?

Actually no.

When we've given examples of how stricter gun controls have worked in other countries to reduce gun deaths, such as Canada and Australia; you have come back with remarks like "We have freedom in the U.S. and "We're Americans and that;s how we do it" and so on.

That's hardly an objective response it it?
