It turns out Turkey banned the parade citing security concerns:

I love how the alternate freebie, for those who might not want an assault rifle, is a 9mm handgun .

'Live Free or Die', so they say in NH.

Pity, the event first took place in 2003 and now occurs each year. The organisers claim 100,000 people attended the 2014 parade.
It was peaceful each year until last year when the Turkish police used tear gas and water cannon on the parade - Sigh!

I assume Erdogan views this as 100,000 people who are against his him!

What's going on with the Orlando killer's wife? Some news reports indicate that she may be missing, run off, on the lam, who knows..

http://www.businessinsider.de/the-or...16-6?r=US&IR=T

A guy who knew about the plans for the Oklahoma City bombing was sentenced to 12 years in jail for not notifying authorities, and rightly so. This woman was an admitted accomplice - why is she not in custody?!

A wife does not have to testify against her husband, correct? But how far would that right go? Surely this is overruled by other laws in such a case?

She wouldn't have to testify against her husband, he is already dead and will not be charged with anything.

She may be charged with aiding and abetting - (and in my opinion will and should). She would probably take the 5th, but I'm not sure if that will get her off.

Testifying is not the same thing as informing the police about a planned crime.

As already posted she could be charge with being an accomplice if there is sufficient evidence

No I meant before he did it all - as far as I understood she knew quiet a bit in advance? What's the 5th?

The 5th Amendment is the right to refuse to give evidence that might be self incriminating.

I don't believe we will ever know the truth about Oswald. The version that makes the most logical sense to me, and which is a work of 'fiction', is laid out in James Ellroy's 'American Tabloid' trilogy.
The United States House Select Committee on Assassinations concluded in 1979 on the JFK assassination:
- a high probability of two gunmen
- JFK was probably assassinated as a result of a conspiracy (i.e. at least two baddies)
- the investigation into the possibility of conspiracy had been inadequate
- the committee was unable to identify the other gunmen or the extent of the conspiracy

Despite these findings, nothing further was done. Somebody must have (had) extremely powerful buddies.

Nothing that a accidental spill of ink and a Neodymium-Ytterbium magnet, accidentally placed at the "wrong" location can't fix.
Or a fire.
Or a small, controlled explosion.
Like most documents and backups related to the Enron case happened to be located in the WTC...

Hey - this is already in the offtopic-section, right?

Re: A shooting just happened in ( *fill in the blank * )

Unbelievable, really -- putting politics above common sense:

US Senate rejects terror list gun sale restrictions

Quote:
The US Senate has rejected plans to tighten gun controls, including the restriction of weapons sales to people on terrorism watch lists.

Democratic and Republican senators voted along party lines, blocking each other's bills. Senators strongly disagreed about how to prevent more attacks happening in future.

Republican Senator John Cornyn said: "Our colleagues want to make this about gun control when what we should be making this about is the fight to eliminate the Islamic extremism that is the root cause for what happened in Orlando. My colleagues in many ways want to treat the symptoms without fighting the disease."

For her part, Democratic Senator Barbara Mikulski said: "Why is it we would go through such incredible scrutiny to board an airplane to protect me against terrorist, and yet we have no scrutiny of the people on the terrorist watch list to be able to buy a gun?"
Nothing short of pathetic.

I predict devastating Senate losses for the Republicans in the elections at the end of the year.

Well, there's enough time for a couple of small shootings to take the wind out of this one.
Also, the occasional neighborhood-hero who prevents a petty larceny at some Mom-and-Pop store with his .45 Magnum (going viral).

The good thing with voters in general is that their memory is so short-lived.
Because think of what harm these politicians could do if they'd be actually running a business (into the ground)?
;-)

Rainer, did you read the link? The bills weren't about restricting a particular kind of gun, but rather only to close the loopholes that people who are on the nofly or terrorist watch lists enjoy, as well as the gunshow loopholes.

People with a history of mental disease, or a serious criminal record can be barred from purchasing weapons.

The GAO pointed out the nofly and terrorist list loophole back in 2010, this is not the first time bills trying to address this loophole have been shot down... by the same group who accuse Obama of being soft on terrorists!
