| | | American news coverage is an embarrassment
I'm in New York at the moment and have been watching the morning national news shows. I've always been a bit critical, but this morning, in the two hours that i have been half watching whilst arguing with DB, working and waiting for my working day to start....
They have not covered
Presidential Election aftermath
Fiscal Cliff
New Chinese Leadership
Hurricane Sandy
Deepening Military Scandal
North Korean Missile Tests
Possible Exhumation of Yasser Arafat
They HAVE covered
A concert and quiz in the Plaza by Wand Erection
Candyfloss TV

you must be watching the Today show. I know that it's supposed to be news, but I would consider it lean more toward entertainment, although most of the time it's not very entertaining. The national news in the evening is more actual news.
On the flip side, it seems like no place is immune; when we were in the UK I was surprised and pretty disappointed to see that the BBC morning news is largely devoted to holding newspapers up to the camera and reading the headlines.

Because media outlets are not, have not, and will not ever be interested in telling people real news.

I agree 100% I hate the Today show. Pretty much the only time they shine is when there's some natural disaster that they can stick some poor schlep in front of.
By the way, Katie Curric used to be morning co-host and they had the horrible idea of making her the anchor for the Evening news. If I recall, she lasted about a year before it became obvious that she wasn't a good fit for "serious" news and replaced her.
