It is not rare !! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_in_India it is the 4th most popular crime...

I think this film should be compulsory viewing for all rapists. Pay attention to the words spoken by the Indian defense lawyers, and then come back and tell me India is wonderful. Is setting your own daughter on fire, a reasonable punishment there? - The lawyer seems to think it is!

What makes India a great nation? The "billions" of people living there? And what is a f**l? Is that code for a Bangladeshi?

I think Premi is tying to say that something bad happening in another country gives an excuse for the gang rapes of young women in India.

Premi - yes India is a great country but do you think the gang rapes shouldn't be reported in the news?
I think what is actually making the global news is the obscene attitude of the perpetrators and not the actual horrific rapes.

Does it? You didn't think they were some normal lads, did you? Obscene attitude from someone who took part in such a horrific act...now that is news.

Re: Indian rape case.

Yes, Many would agree with me in saying that India is wonderful. Not because what the defense lawyer said.... But because there are so many Indians out there who are opposing in every possible way to his very words. Yes, India is wonderful, not because of the rape that happened, but because of the protests that followed the rape. These are all the people who DO NOT believe in the sick mentalities expressed by the rapist and his defense lawyers. Rape happens all over the world, but there is no other country that can claim to have witnessed protests against rape on the scale of India’s, where people turned out in the tens of thousands to voice their shock and sadness.

Yes, India is wonderful.

I would express disappointment that the BBC would provide oxygen for this kind of odious opinion, but they seem to be making a habit of it these days, judging by the amount of air time extreme islamists seem to get.

The BBC is no better than the Daily Mail nowadays. Time it paid its own way like the rest of the trashy news sources, I reckon.

Re: Indian rape case.

I was replying to Premi who suggested this attack was an isolated case.

(I also praised the huge majority of decent Indians, see my post at 06.03.2015 09:51 )

However the Indian government are not doing themselves any favours by attacking the BBC and trying to stop the documentary being shown. The film was scheduled to be first shown yesterday 8.3.2015, on International Women's Day, but it was also shown earlier on 4.3.2015 after India started to try and stop the transmission.

Re: Indian rape case.

Totally agree to the fact the banning the film is not helping anyone. It shows the good and the not so good things equally that needs to be thought upon. And the film is not causing any shame instead the fact that the rapists are still alive to give stupid opinions on a world stage is a shame! They are even getting money (in this case the convict mukesh singh got 40,000 INR from the film producer for his interview http://www.newindianexpress.com/nati...cle2701040.ece) to give the world glimpse to their heinous thoughts!!

Not sure if we should use the tax payers money to keep them alive and comfortable in the jail and make them celebrities to be able to demand money for their interviews for the wonderful crime he has committed. The case is being handled by a fast track court and "3 years and counting" is not exactly called fast-track for anything.....

Sorry - I should have been clearer - what I meant to write was that the BBC report, which I didn't see, but which was mentioned in the press, brought the case back into the news.

The horrific crimes had a lot of coverage when they occurred.

We are democratic republic union, we are not religious republic union

We have laws in place with capital punishments. Even divorce is not easy for Indian men forget about rape.

My sisters and mothers are safe even at midnight 03.00 AM on Mumbai streets like other womens who are seen at those places at that time.

So chill, do your business, post by people like you are not going to affect in any way to our country.

Obviously it is not that "rare" as we are reading more and more cases in the international press, whereas before it was simply covered up. Shame!

No offense, but my wife is from Mumbai and no way in hell would she call it safe for a woman to wander around alone at 3 AM. It's not even especially safe at 12pm.

It is way better than Delhi but this is not exactly saying much.

Its pool of billions and rape may have happened, but is a rare case out of billions of people.
CHENNAI: If one goes by the latest statistics of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), every day 93 women are being raped in the country.

According to NCRB data, there is a gradual increase in the number of rapes reported in India - from 24,923 in 2012 to 33,707 in 2013.

Despite of several protests after Nirbhaya incident in New Delhi, the national capital continuous to be the unsafe city in the country. The number of rapes in Delhi has almost doubled from 585 in 2012 to 1,441 in 2013. Delhi is followed by Mumbai (391), Jaipur (192) and Pune (171) among the top unsafe cities in the country.

source: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/i...w/37566815.cms

Rape does happen in other countries and maybe even more than in India but what I find most disturbing is that you want to brush it under the carpet and stop people from seeing/discussing it. I don't think that the documentary did as much damage to India's image as much as the governments ban did.
