| | | Belgian woman blindly drove 900 miles across Europe as she followed broken GPS
How do you drive for 2 days instead of 45 minutes...and you keep driving? A Belgian woman took an astonishing 1,800 mile detour through six countries after her car navigation system went wrong. Sabine Moreau, 67, had intended to drive to Brussels from her home in Solre-sur-Sambre to pick up a friend from the train station - a journey of just 38 miles. But she took a catastrophic wrong turn and eventually ended up 900 miles away in Zagreb, Croatia. Daily Mail article

Whatever, she just took a little vacay to Croatia with the trip to the train station as her cover story. |

There was a story a few years ago of the couple in Italy who typed in "Carpi" instead of the island of Capri and drove hundreds of kilometers out of their way. The tourist official guy in Carpi was puzzled why they hadn't noticed that they never boarded a boat to cross a large body of water.
These are the kind of people who should not procreate.

Personally the reference of 'broken' perhaps should not be applied to the GPS...

These are the kind of people who should not procreate. | | | | | Nice. I can think of the GPS stories in the desert lands of the US where people followed GPS, where the GPS thought that old dried river beds counted as roads, and people just drove until they were stranded and died.

Be careful in Switzerland. There is a Cressier NE, Cressier FR, Crissier VD, Rapperswil BE, Rapperswil SG.. Villars-Ste-Croix (VD) Villars-Burquin (VD) Villars-Tiercelin (VD) Villars-Mendraz (VD) Villars-Bozon (VD) Villars-Bramard (VD) Villars-Epeney (VD)
and many more similarities!
I always check on the GPS that the destination is correct on the little map preview. My friend did not do this and went about 2 hours in the wrong direction: she does have two science degrees, but then we can all make a mistake.

People went wrong even pre-GPS. Some poor folk we met in Fribourg (CH) couldn't find the road they were looking for. Which wasn't really surprising as they should have been in Freiburg im Breisgau (D)

Yeah, right ... the totally credible Daily Mail, again.
I'm prepared to believe everything in this story -- stopping several times for petrol and paying for it (presumably in the garage shop, in languages other than Flemish/French), drining for two days solid (except for a short snooze -- natural, when driving to the station to pick up a friend), watching and hearing languages change all around her ...
But how did she cross from Slovenia to Croatia without showing her passport -- and if she had her passport with her, mightn't being asked (in Serbo-Croatian) to produce it be a little bit of a clue that something was awry? I've done that crossing many times and it's not one of the simpler transactions.

I am really shocked by the quote of the policeman who states that that woman has done nothing wrong |

Blindly ? was she driving the new self-driving car ?
It CANNOT be a coincidence, so this should be looked into too. http://ideas.time.com/2013/01/14/wil...s-of-the-road/
"So preoccupied that even after being forced to stop for petrol several times - as well as a snooze on the side of the road - Ms Moreau still did not question her satnav"
She should have questioned her sanity instead.
'I was a bit absent-minded as I had a few things to think about, I suppose."
Please , Daily Mail , don't let her or us suppose. We could be on the verge of a mental toughness breakthrough. What can you think about to lose so fully the sense of time, space, goal in life for 900 miles straight ? |

In aviation (where I first used GPS) there is an acronym for blindly following the GPS. Look at accident statistics for CFIT (controlled flight into terrain)

This is the English Forum in Swaziland isn't it? I missed Sweden, so I think I turned right and headed down towards Algeria.
There's a shitload of sand going on all around me now.
