Oscar Pistorius, paralympic champion, has been arrested after a woman was shot dead at his home in Pretoria.
It is being reported that he may have shot his girlfriend after mistaking her for an intruder.
Terrible, and very sad.

Allegedly she was shot twice, in the arm and head.

A young woman's life over, and maybe a young man's too.

Head shots are almost always personal, so I doubt it very much that this is simply a terrible accident of someone defending his home.

I personally think it was probably a terrible tragic mistake.

If anything this might mean that she tried to cover her face perhaps?

Could that be that she came to surprise him on Valentines day.. would be really sad. In any case stay have proper security equipment not guns.

Terrible news. Especially, on the V-Day and that SA's sport well known icon was involved. The world will never learn from mistakes of few masacres this and last year how serious the issue of firearms really is. If I were in charge of all this, I would immediately vote for replacing guns and pistols with red paper hearts on the sticks

He didn't shoot JFK, and unless his 9mm pistol has 4 barrels I'd say he fired more than once.

Although I find the accident tragic, I do find it a bit excessive that she was shot 4 times.

If the first shot was a lucky head shot, I'd imagine that would be enough to stop.

If she was shot in the arm or leg, or wherever, surely she would have let out an 'identifying' shriek so he'd know who he had just shot.
(Shock is also a possibility why this didn't occur)

Yes, I find the report a little strange, but I'd prefer to believe this was a terrible accident until proven otherwise.

Whatever happened there it is still another sensless incident in which two celebrities become victims: one is dead and nothing will bring her back and the other one has all his career ruined if not awaiting a long sentence in prison.

I would imagine that being a double amputee, as well as being well known and probably pretty well off, he would feel particularly vulnerable on his own at night, hence the arsenal of weapons. You would think he would check to see who he was shooting before he pulled the trigger though.
I really feel for him though, and of course for his girlfriend and her family and friends.
