It seems to be suicide. How tragic and sad.

Tragic and sad indeed. But he apparently had Parkinson. My uncle in Geneva for years suffered from this and while the brains and the personality of Parkinson people remain in order they get tired swiftly,. find it difficult to keep a tea-can or a wine-glass in their hand. And exactly that their brains work well makes them painfully aware of the mess.

Re: Rip Robin Williams

I've been reading about the assumptions that the medicine he took for parkinson's in fact caused him to act impulsively on the suicidal thoughts. Some articles have suggested that he suffered from bipolar's and/or depression. If he has indeed suffered from these issues, then it may have been that the parkinson's medicine had the unfortunate side-effect of magnifying his depression. A few things do suggest that this was a 'spontaneous' suicide (e.g. there was no goodbye letter, he discussed future plans with his agent a day earlier).
Not sure if this was indeed the case and I seriously doubt he would have wanted people talking about his private issues. But perhaps his tragic death will at least spark some debate about Parkinson's and the standard of care.

It's quite annoying to see all these debates (and not only in his case). I for one, can't understand for the life of me why his own wife has thrown the Parkinson thing into the wolves' mouths (aka media and the tons of tv shows with the afferent invited "DNA splitters" as guests).
Each to their own.

Rip Robin Williams

I suppose his wife added the Parkinson's diagnosis because mental illnesses are so heavily stigmatized and many people consider them to be character flaws. Meh to them. I guess it's easier to justify behavior on a so-called physical disorder or drug reaction rather than a mental illness. Not saying anything against his wife, just describing a possible motivation.

It's sad. Really sad. Keep an eye on the people near you, although sometimes there is nothing you can do.

I did read something early on about suicide prevention and ways to prevent the impulsive attempts. Is it true that cooking gas formulations have changed in the UK to help prevent this?

Re: Rip Robin Williams

Yes, coal gas was phased out many years ago, and apparently suicide rates dropped.

I can understand his wife. The Parkinson thing for sure has been in her mind for years ...

As I understand it, the diagnosis was recent. And, he'd only been married to this woman for 3 years. But i can understand it too - in a way, it protects his memory.

Re: Rip Robin Williams

I'm glad to read that his final resting place is somewhere as beautiful as the SF Bay area. Source

Still lost for words

Re: Rip Robin Williams

His birthday is approaching (as well as the one year anniversary of his death)

I thought I'd post a video of his stand-up performance and one of him meeting Koko, the gorilla.
